GTA IV was a huge hit, surpassing the sales records of other games including Halo 3, along with movies (Pirates of the Carribean: World's End, Lord of the Rings: Return of the King, Titanic) and music (Michael Jackson's Thriller, Linkin Park's Hybrid Theory, Kanye West's Graduation) for the first week. Great news for Take-Two, however:

The video game publisher was expected to use the strong results, which topped even the most bullish expectations, to strengthen its bargaining position in talks with rival Electronic Arts Inc, which is trying to buy it for $2 billion, or $25.74 per share.

No Take-Two! Don't fall for the dark side! :(

Edit: Just realized the title of thread didn't really make sense. Changed the article used for the second part of the title.

If EA buys Take-Two then you know GTA IV will be the last good game in the series. I did buy GTA IV on launch day, and I hope this game helps them stay independent of EA. Not only does Take-Two make GTA, but they are the second biggest producer of sports video games behind EA. If EA where to buy Take-Two, they virtually wipe out all competition in that genre.

Haha, why so tame?

EA = Evil's A**hole.

I really do hope Take-Two reconsiders after observing the strength of the sales for GTA IV. We don't need a monopolistic company developing our games...

If Take-Two is bought, what's to say EA will stop there? Why not Vivendi Universal along with Blizzard? Oh the horror! :X

If Take-Two or Activision bought Maxis from EA, I would be one very happy camper. The only EA products I buy are those developed by Will Wright and company...

Or Will Wright could just be hired by Take-Two or Activision--that would make my day too.

Pretty much everything EA develops is rubbish and most of what they publish is sub-par.

I am proud to say that I own nine games for the Xbox 360, and not a single one was published or developed by EA. I do however seem to have quite a few EA games for the PC including Crysis and BF2.

The Burnout series for the Xbox was always good. Up until Burnout Paradise. They ruined that game with the freelance driving and doing races whenever.

I believe that Activision just aquired Vivindi International, so probably are not in a possition to bid on Take-Two, even though that was brought up in a recent Portfolio Magazine article.

I'm not sure that I agree with EA being evil and all. Yes they are huge, but I used to work in the same building with the EA/Tiburon developers and they seemed like a good crew, they're the ones that made Madden Football, etc. I worked for a bank at the time, and the EA crew seemed to have a dress code of "anything but naked". Very layed back work environment, up until about a month before release, then it was like hell week for the entire month. The last time I saw people that tired was when I worked around interns in a hospital emergency room....yes if you go to an emergency room after hours you're being medicated by a zombie with no sleep for 72 hrs.
