Yeah, stupid name, but decent event. I attended one a little while back - basically various tech demos of their 2008 development and infrastructure tools (Visual Studio, SQL Server, Windows Server, Hyper-V, etc). Also came away with promo copies of Vista Ultimate SP1, Server 2008 Enterprise, Visual Studio 2008, and SQL Server 2008 CTP. Not for use in production environments, of course, but otherwise the license terms are surprisingly permissive.

For those of you Jonesing for MS products in a Developmental environment, look into being MSDN subscribers. I think my old account used to cost about $1500/year and gave me access to non-timed Developmental licenses and code for just about anything MS had out. It was a life saver on several projects and permitted me to load up and run in Lab what was necessary for a rollout. IF you code in the MS environment, it's definately worth a look.

MSDN is definitely a great resource. I have a subscription, so none of the promo software received at this conference is really anything new, but hey, free stuff! The best thing about MSDN, in my opinion, is that there is no time limit to your use of the software - as long as you're a subscriber when you download the ISOs and generate your license keys, you can continue to use the software as long as you want.

There's also a version of MSDN that only gives you access to operating systems only (not dev tools and servers) for a substantially lower subscription fee (~$400 IIRC).
