Hey guys, just wondering if you could help out a fellow chap here. :)

I bought this board a couple weeks ago to find out that it does not work with a certian PSU. Now, from what I've been reading, there have been others with the same PSU/mobo combo and are running comfortably.

My PSU that didn't work was a Rosewill Stallion Series. (I know, but no flaming on crap PSU's please.) All it would do is give a flicker of light and then do nothing. I've tried resetting CMOS, nothing plugged in except processor, etc. (Note: I tried an OLD PSU from a pentium 1 computer and it POWERED it on! I think that was only 200w)

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817182044

I had to go out and buy a new PSU just so I could power my mobo on. Which is ok, but I really liked the Rosewill one since it had blue leds and was extremely quiet.

So did I miss anything? I would like to get it working, but have seriously came to my wits end about this!

Pretty hard to diagnose when all you've said is it didn't work in once instance.

You didn't say if the Rosewill PSU has ever worked on any other motherboards, whether it currently works on any other motherboards, whether you've tested it with a go/no-go PSU tester, if you've measured any voltages, whether you made sure all minimum loading requirements were met for the PSU to function, and so on.

If you Google on
how to test a psu
you'll find lots of the basic PSU diagnostic information.

Here on HWA you can search on
go/no-go psu albrich
for a list of a lot of posts that deal in detail with PSU testing/diagnostics.

Ok

Yea, the Rosewill works perfect on every other motherboard that I have tried. Even though I used all the same parts.(besides motherboard)

I'll try some of those searches John, thanks!

BTW I was thinking that maybe the gigabyte motherboard needs more AMPS to start up? I don't deal with electricity, so I wouldn't know how accurate that might be.

Rosewill - 2 12v rails @ 15 and 16 amps (don't work on gigabyte, but others have it running their gigabyte fine, tested with other LGA775 mobo and all work)

Antec- 2 12v rails @ 18 amps a piece (works on everything)

Does your Gigabyte board have any extra aux connectors that might be required? Although that shouldn't affect POST ...

Just the regular 24 pin and a 4 pin, which both were plugged in, I also tried booting without the 4 pin in to see if it did anything, but it didn't.

There may also be a 4-6 pin 12V (ATX 12V) connector on the MB.
You may be hooking up the molex EZ_Plug and not the ATX12V connector.
This is generic, but given the PSU works with other MBs, you may need to look for the specific ATX12V connector on the PSU vs. the PCI-E connector.

Sorry about the late reply, my wife just gave birth to a baby girl over the weekend so I didn't get to mess around with it at all. I will give your suggestions a shot though.

Thanks
