Woo! I've been using Firefox 3 as my main browser since beta4, the RC is much improved. A lot of extensions still don't work, you can set extensions.checkCompatibility to false in about:config to install them anyway, but you may have to edit the code for some to become functional.

I've too many of them that really are incompatible sadly, just uninstalled it. Foxmarks and Gmail Manager were both having some issues so I switched back to 2.0.0.14. Looks nice though, people need to start making some more skins. I would but I need to learn CSS first.

I think there are some skins available already, people weren't too pleased with the Vista default (nor was I). I've made all my changes in my userChrome.css, but I might make it into a theme later on. :P

The only extension that I use that wouldn't work after I forced it to install is Password Hasher, but I made a few changes to it so it does.

RC1 is a good step for extension devs, expect to see updated versions of at least the most popular ones soon (if they're not already out).

Yeah, I'm happy with the Firefox team, I just wish some of the people that make the more popular extensions were a little quicker. But hey, they do this stuff on the side so I can't really be too miffed about it.

I am... really un-enthusiastic about the new browser. I really like Firefox 2.0, I thought it was REALLY good. With 3.0, they took some of the stuff that made it really good... and... removed it. For instance, the new password "Remember, Never for this site, or Not Now" thing is... really stupid now. Or on the downloads window, they removed the button to your default download location with... a search field.

Am I the only one who isn't head-over-heels about search? Most downloads aren't even very well, or contextually named anyhow. I recently watched a movie trailer that was named 6354487.mov or something. Typing "Kung Fu Panda" wouldn't have assisted me in finding that trailer in my downloads box, but if I had a button to fire up an explorer window so I could rummage myself, would be useful.

And why the hell not? They have the "Clear List" button, still, AND the search field, WHY NOT THE DAMN BUTTON? THEY HAVE ROOM FOR IT! Something that used to take one click now takes two. Gah, that p**ses me off.

But I guess I'll just go in and get it. Urgh. At least they have a damn 256x256 pixel icon.

If you set extensions.checkCompatibility and extensions.checkUpdateSecurity to false in about:config, you should be able to get almost any extension working (although you may open up security holes). The only extension that I had to actually re-code portions of was Password Hasher.

But Meats, out of the ones you've posted, I use:

• Adblock (not the plus version which I've always hated, but I assume it works as well)
• NoScript
• Download Statusbar

Which all work fine (and have worked for me since fx3-beta4)

I'm running under Vista on my laptop and my desktop now. It's by far superior to any other browser I used. There are so many little things that just make it a better browser. The bookmark manager is much improved, and the password manager now asks you if you want to remember the password after the website loads so you know if you actually typed it in right or not. I always hated when I would tell it to remember the password and it I typed in the wrong one.

Yeh the password manager addition is great. Now I just need to wait for an update to the finger print scanner extension for my laptop :]

The download progress on the status bar is quite handy too.

OK so this wonderful thing called Firefox has a new version. And all the IE haters have to post what a great thing this marvel of technology is. I just hate it. First of all I can't get it to play music imbedded in my myspace page. And trust me I've tried everything to get it to work up to and including lowering my security settings to the "here I am come give me a virus" level and turning off all my security apps. Then there's this rendering issue. Here's the page in IE. Notice the difference in the distance between the two columns...

http://angryhippy.net/images/IErendering.jpg

Then of course when I finally decided to download firefox 2 everything was screwed up. So I had to go back through all my code and make changes so it rendered somewhat how I wanted it. However now the columns were seperated by a wider gap so both columns were not completely visible at 1024x768 as shown here...

http://angryhippy.net/images/ff2rendering.jpg

Then here comes the new and improved firefox3. And now because of these "improvements" the page is now totally rendered completely different from either IE or Firefox2. All the IE naysayers are always harping on the fact that IE doesn't hold to the standards for rendering pages. Well apparently neither dos firefox 2 or 3. Here's what it looks like in ff3...

http://angryhippy.net/images/ff3rendering.jpg

Oh ya, the video and music imbedded in the page still don't play. AND contrary to all the reviews I've read so far ff3 is using 20MBs more memory than ff2. Meanwhile my deepnet browser is no longer being maintaind and it's age is showing. Some pages in php aren't working now. So I'm still in the hunt for a new browser. Some other things I'll mention. Ive tried it with both SP2 and SP3 and no SP at all to no avail. All my flash permissions are set right as far as I can tell. And I'm using the latest JRE6.4. I've been trying to fix this music thing for almost a month now. Some people say it works in their firefox, and some say it doesn't. Tell me if it works for you...

I was going to just post a quick reminder that this might be a good time to try to re-initialize Flash from the very lowest level possible. Ya know....remove all traces of it before upgrading to Firefox3. Especially since it's now a very involved process to remove and re-install a new version of Flash with any degree of certainty.

See
Adobe Flash upgrade procedure and extra manual actions required of the user:

I'm holding off on Firefox3 for awhile.
