This morning my World of Warcraft account was hacked. I logged in to find my character completely stripped of all his items that were vendor-able, on my character and in the bank. Soon after I discovered what happened I was disconnected and my password as auto changed leaving me unable to log into my account via the game, or the online account management page.

To add insult to injury since I was an officer of the guild, they stole all of the guild banks contents!

I am now left unable to access my account payment options, the game, forums, or management options.

There was an Adobe Flash Player exploit found recently and I was under the impression I had the fixed version that was released, evidently not.

I just wanted to post informing people to check your Adobe Flash and make sure you have the fixed version regardless if you play WoW or not, I don't know if they can access any other key strokes or information on your computer.

That sucks, sorry to hear that. Again, just to confirm, you had the recommend version of Adobe Flash Player, and were still hacked? You should send a report and complaint to Blizzard if that's the case.

Have you reported this incident to Blizzard yet?

Yea evidently when I did my update for Flash it didn't take for some reason. I didn't check the version number I just assumed it went in successfully, so I'm at fault I guess.

I have sent in an email to the support side of Blizzard, but the support phone lines don't open until tomorrow, so I'll ave to call them then and start getting things resolved.

Not necessarily your fault. I have continual problems getting Flash updated properly.

IMO, Even though I've done all I can, including using the removal tool, rebooting, etc. the updating process just is NOT reliable and I believe Adobe does a really poor job of dealing with this, considering how key the program is to using the internet, and especially considering the security exposure it continually presents to opportunistic multi-media.

Note exactly how demanding the uninstall process is...it has a LOT of user action dependencies in order to work right...and it won't even tell you if it doesn't complete the uninstall/re-install operation correctly. The user even has to visually search for keywords for [supreme being's] sake, and you may have to repeat things several times.

Note especially my emphasis on the uninstaller update requirements in the notice below.

How to uninstall the Adobe Flash Player plug-in and ActiveX control

Due to recent enhancements to the Adobe Flash Player installers, you can now remove the player only by using the Adobe Flash Player uninstaller. To remove Flash Player, simply download and run the appropriate uninstaller for your system using the steps below.

1. Download the Adobe Flash Player uninstaller:
* Windows: uninstall_flash_player.exe (181 KB) (updated 04/08/08)
Note: If you have a Windows Flash Player uninstaller downloaded prior to April 4, 2008 on your desktop, then please delete it and download the latest version.
2. Save the file to your system, choosing a location where you can find it (for example, your desktop). Macintosh users may need to open or unstuff the .hqx file.
3. Quit ALL running applications, including all Internet Explorer or other browser windows, AOL Instant Messenger, Yahoo Messenger, MSN Messenger, or other Messengers. Check the Windows system tray carefully to make certain no applications are still in memory which might possibly use Flash Player.
4. Run the uninstaller. This will remove Adobe Flash Player from all browsers on the system.

Note: The uninstaller cannot remove files currently in use.

If you have any instances of the player open in your web browsers, instant messaging clients, stand-alone SWFs, or projectors, then the uninstaller will complete but some files may not be deleted. If this occurs, then close all of your applications and run the uninstaller again to ensure that all files are removed.

Note: Internet Explorer users may have to reboot to clear all uninstalled Flash Player ActiveX control files. If you're not certain, select the "Show Details" button in the Flash Player uninstaller. If there are any log lines that begin with "Delete on Reboot..." then you'll need to reboot BEFORE running the Flash Player installer again.
Platform.

HWA has banners?

that would totally suck to get all of your stuff stripped. An especially crappy to have guild rank, an have those items taken as well. I put time into FFXI, I can relate the feeling of losing time spent.... Yeah its "just a game" an would be worse if it was your bank account, but it still sucks.

If someone has their animation/security settings set a certain way, or if they use a third party plug-in (like 'Stop Autoplay' for Firefox) they'll never see the animated banner...unless of course they manually over-ride the setting.

Everyone Please be aware that there is some contention as to whether the latest patches from Adobe have closed all of the holes. As of Friday they were still analysing the situation.
Also, you have to patch BOTH IE and Firefox if you use them. In my case the IE patch went in flawlessly, but I had to patch Firefox through a downloadable executable and had to close FF, patch and restart the system for the changes to take.
