Brand new T61 laptop with 4gbs of ram, WinXP and SP2.

Opening IE.exe, and then opening new windows, or opening pop-ups takes about 5 full seconds. What's going on? I remember having this problem about 4 years ago but don't remember how i fixed it.

It's annoying because im working on a web-based application that requires opening pop-up windows to perform searches. Every time I click i have to wait 5 seconds, perform the search, choose option, go to the next field, click to search, wait 5 seconds for pop-up, etc.

It's not like it's opening a new window and stalling for 5 seconds. The new browser window/popup doesnt actually appear until after that time.

Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

It sounds like it could be a DNS resolution issue, which you can't control.

Does this happen for ALL windows, or just that particular search web-page? It seems you meant ALL windows, but it wasn't 100% clear.

Some other things you might check:
Try opening directly to the website, don't use the domain name alias. If it's much faster than it's likely the DNS issue.

Have you tried going through a different service provider? Some have added filtering which may cause a perceptible change in the web interface.

Does the same delay opening that page occur with Firefox or other browser?

Temporarily turn off your internet security and try the same thing (obviously on trusted sites only). I've seen recent security tools be the cause of such delays.

Thanks for the reply.

Happens to all windows. Does NOT happen in firefox, only IE.

Im going to try taking it home and seeing if there is a difference when connected to my wireless network (this happens when im at work).

Had a couple of T60s before this, and never had the problem. None of my coworkers have the issue.
