FF13

PS3....Xbox360

Money talks, and Microsoft certainly proved that.

Rumor has it Square Enix was having fanancial issues and is trying to maximize profits.

This is a bad hit on the PS3 but as well FF13 as a game if it isn't just a downscaled port (for the 360) as it won't be at it's full PS3 potential if it was made for 360.

That sure will hurt the Playstation 3, as that was supposed to be on of the big exclusive titles. Final Fantasy XIII was the last thing showed off at the Microsoft E3 press conference which finished up just a few hours ago. I watched the entire thing via a live video stream. I think the game might still show up on the Playstation 3 a bit earlier then the Xbox 360 the way they were talking. It didn't sound like the Xbox 360 version was getting a same day release as the PS3 version, but I could be wrong.

The latest RUMOR after the showing (immediately) was that it will be the same day release.

Like I said, if it's the same day I really hope it's not a numbed version for the 360.

Square Enix has expressed the desire for and possibility of an worldwide simultaneous release for Final Fantasy XIII.[21] A statement made on Square Enix's official website, concerning the game's release date, reminded consumers that any "confirmed release dates" reported by sources other than Square Enix are "erroneous and should be disregarded".[3] A Square Enix representative suggested that a release date may be announced during 2008.[22] At E3 2008, during Microsoft's media briefing, it was announced that Final Fantasy XIII would see a multi-platform release on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, on the same day in North America and Europe.[2]

If it is a same day launch I am quite surprised they did not make that clear during the press conference. When GTA IV was announced to be coming to Xbox 360 the same day as PS3 they made a big deal of it at that press conference many years back.

Square Enix also announced three other RPG games for the Xbox 360 at the press conference, including one which is exclusive to the console.

I did see this, msoft is pushing REALLY hard to get into the Japanese market as other games on both the 360 and Xbox Original had failed miserably.

Quote = from IGN

1:03 - The PS3 and the 360 versions will be released simultaneously in the US and Europe, but not Japan.

YAY!

That's EXCELLENT news. Not that I have a console. But I'm just so happy to hear
that about Sony. Exclusives are so 90's. Sony grabbing all the big titles, and holding
the licence (not that any other console company were like that, but Sony is bad for it).

It's not a sad day. It's a great day for the folks who have 360's and can now experience
that particular game - and hopefully many others.

If Sony was that great, they wouldn't need to acquire "exclusives" they'd get the fans
they need regardless. Obviously, that is not the case these days. Just because
sony have lost a title (which i've never ever played - cos i don't like the look of RPG's)
doesn't mean it's the end of the world. But then again, if they lose more... lol.
Personally, i'd like to see some more exclusives lifted and spread around other
machines & PC's. I'd like to play GT5 or what ever it's called on my PC.

This could be the start of good things to come....

Sony has a press conference tomorrow (as does Nintendo), it will be interesting to see what they will announce and if they can top Microsoft's show. It will be interesting to see if Sony shows off Gran Turismo 5, as Microsoft did not even mention Forza 3. I am dying for a new racing simulator game.

OMFG, I'm going to support Sony....schriatp!!! (half s**t, half crap) (pronounced script, with a long i, a new word that I retain all rights too, but you can use it). :D
Sony has been so burned in the past, actually probably before SOME of you were even born, by the Betamax fiasco, that they're only trying to hold on to the marketing and technological edge that they have against thier present competitors. How they're trying to do it, across SO many vectors, and how it impacts us, is most likely of a less concideration than loosing that edge that they are percieved to have right now.
This sucks for you and me, but I can see Sony's viewpoint as well, that they have to hold onto what is proprietory to them as long as they can, even if U and I get a bit ticked about it.

You do understand that Sony's exclusives are so yesterday, and Microsoft is flexing its almighty dollar non-stop in the Console world buying tons of video game company's that are in financial trouble and forcing them to dawn the Xbox Exclusive Title, right?

This is terrible news.

I'd rather see Microsoft buy failing game companies then EA. At least when Microsoft buys them they usually make some pretty good games, where as EA just makes endless crappy sequels.

I really don't think it's much of a surprise that FF XIII is being released for Xbox 360. Square Enix probably expected a bigger install base by now for the PS3. Why would they do a PS3 exclusive and sell 4 million copies of the game when they can release it on both consoles and sell 10 million copies of the game.

They probably saw how GTA IV on Xbox 360 outsold the PS3 version, and decided that it was a good idea to port FF XIII from PS3 to Xbox 360. After all, it can't be too hard to do. They both use IBM PowerPC based CPUs and have graphics chips with very similar performance.

They aren't usually failing, just ones that need a contract, and Microsoft forces them to make games specifically for them, and IMHO that's dumb.

All games might as well be multiplatform.

What do you expect? Microsoft to give them free money and let them release a game on non-Microsoft platforms?

It's not really FREE money, if they put exclusive content etc on it for them but still make it multi-platform.

I just think it's funny how people still believe Sony runs the exclusive monopoly when Xbox is home of like 20 + major exclusiveness.

They took advantage of some of Nintendo's contracts, and Sonys.

Ummm, so MS is doing the same thing as Sony?
So why all the smack against Sony if all they're doing is combating Microsoft?

?

Sony did it in the earlier years, but now Microsoft is bullying companies into releasing multi-platforms AND/OR buying contracts that force exclusive games.

I think that would be ground shaking enough to really have Sony Recover.
