hey all :)
I got a Transcend Jetflash V10 8G flash drive and had some files on it.

I was using it on my IBM laptop (pentium, windows XP service pack 2), then all of a sudden it stopped working.

When I went to "My computer", the drive is recognised as a CD Rom drive! I could not access it, I did not even have the option of formatting it.

there was an error message saying it was not formatted..

Does anyone know how to fix the problem?

As a quick troubleshooting step, did you try it on another computer?

If that doesn't work, was it ever exposed to environmental hazards like extreme heat, extreme cold, electrostatic discharge, and/or magnets (like an airport security scanner)? Any of these things can damage a flash stick beyond repair.

thanks..

I'm pretty sure it's the USB drive problem because other USB drives work on my computer. I've tried this Transcend USB on 2 other computers and the same thing happened

No. it hasn't been exposed to environmental hazards..... It stopped workng all of a sudden..

I don't think there is anyway to test them beyond what you already did (try in other computers). At this point, I would assume it either failed as the result of infant mortality (if it is pretty new) or just failed from normal wear and tear (if older). Some manufacturers have very lengthy warranty coverage (many years is typical) on sticks and since it didn't fail as a fault of your own, it may be worth investigating. If it is under a year old, the place you purchased it should replace it.
