I wonder if/when nVidia will finally open up SLI to systems without an nForce chip on the motherboard?

That would mean surrendering their IP for the SLI chip, which I really doubt they'll do (not in the near future anyway) as it wouild have to be incorporated into the Intel chipset or whatever

not really, it would mean they stop locking the feature out in the driver.

yup it was 8 cores... looking at the CPU usage graphs almost becomes comical with 8 of them going at the same time.

If it was a simple matter of locking the feature out in the driver, the chip wouldnt be required at all.

A reg hack / hacked driver would fix that.

4 physical cores, each with Hyperthreading enabled = 8 cores available to OS

on some chipsets, yes and on others, it wouldn't be possible. now making vendors BUY chips to utilize SLI makes the most money sense for them since they only produce GPUs and Chipset. nVidia is all about the dollar. but then again, maybe one day they'll stop being douche bags with proprietary SLI chipsets since ATI is returning to glory

I think not many manufactures are going to offer the SLI chip so NVIDIA will quickly learn that they need to make the IP public domain in order to prevent the technology from completely dying.

The article really doesn't offer any new information except in dispelling the rumor that Nehalem won't be overclockable.
