I have a Nvidia GeForce 7600 GT currently, and my friend just upgraded his computer and gave me his old video card which is a ATI All-in-Wonder X800 XT card.

Which card will give me better performance with gaming; I mostly play World of Warcraft.

The X800XT will yield better performance, but the 7600GT features some newer technologies. For WoW, either card will do just fine.

Thank you for the quick replies. I knew they were close, I'll just wait to use the ati card in another machine.

Mothow,

I dont know about that... according to the 4 benchmarks.... the X800XT tops the 7600GT 3 out of 4 of those tests.... To me the X800XT had the better fps.

AIW also are a little more robust than the plain X800 XT. I'd say use the X800 card.

Those benchmarks that LiquidShadow linked are against a 850xt not 800. Dunno if that matters or not.

I actually noticed some pretty good improvements by changing the Performance & Quality Settings --> Image settings --> "High Performance" from the nvidia control panel. I also updated the drivers that were a few months old.

It's not really THAT much better to warrant me switching cards/drivers and all that is it? I mean, it's not really worth it for me if I go from 12 fps to 14 fps. I plan on building a new gaming machine in January... and I'm lazy lol.

That 7600GT will clock up a bit too, mine one seems to like overclocking :)

No, the difference wouldn't be signfificant to switch to ATI unless you do a lot of Open GL work.

If you have both cards just try them both out and forget about benchmarks.

Personally, I'd chose the 7600GT.

If it was an X850XT, I'd have to think a bit longer.

X800XT was competitor to 6800GT, 7600GT is a faster card.

In games that utilise SM3, the x800 wont use that code path, hence the feeling of it running slightly faster - its not actually doing as much work though.

For wow - any decent card from the last 3 years should do though.

Erik the link I posted is for the X850XT but if you look at the charts, they've included the X800XT in them.

Erik,

Liquid is correct in that the chart did include the X800XT into it...... that is why i mentioned that the X800XT was a tad faster than the 7600GT.

If you just base the two cards in performance.... in reality its probably not worth swapping it out for one or the other. You probably wont see much or if any difference... BUT.... the one thing that the AIW X800XT has over the 7600GT is that it contains the mulitmedia features that the All In Wonder Series are very famous for. You can watch TV, DVR, Input/output video and audio, record your video etc... So if you were to swap it out.... you will still have the same gaming fps, but you will now be added the multimedia functions of the card. Its up to you if it is worth the trouble.

here is an old review of the AIW X800XT card - http://www.hothardware.com/Articles/ATI-AllInWonder-X800-XT/?page=1

I would just use the 7600GT for games and keep the x800xt incase you need it for the AIW features. Or just sell it off to another friend, atleast you'd get something out of it haha.

Both good cards, The AIW has the capablility of taking multi-media type inputs that the 7600 doesn't have. That comes at the cost of extra power and heat.
If you're not watching Cable or other TV type related material (camcorder, etc), then I'd set the AIW aside for a different machine.

Back in the day, I switched out an X800XT AIW (which is a stock XT card, nothing special) for an eVGA 7600GT. The 7600GT WAS faster. There is not a question, the 7600 is a better card.

That should sort it out. 7600GT all the way.

Its much newer tech, and in most cases faster than X800XT (in the review its X850XT), particularly look at the HL2 benchmark - where the playing field is level (i.e all cards capable of rendering all effects). 7600GT wins by quite a margin - and thats a faster card than the X800XT.
Even Quake4 and NFS:U it takes the lead

Both cards would do fine - but I definitely would not swap a 7600GT for an X800XT

Heres an idea: sell both and get a 8800gts/hd3850 ?

If he sold both he could get a 4850.It wouldn't make sense to get a 3850 now unless it was like $50

Yeah but a 7600GT and x800 are virtually worthless. I bet you would only get maybe 80-100$ out of them both.
