I just got my new 8800GT that worked out of the box. Unfortunately the 2x1GB Patriot Viper DDR2 1066 wouldn't post past 850MHz which is pretty sad since my Geil Ultra DDR2 800 will post at 1000. But Newegg doesn't seem to be carrying Geil anymore. So I've done the RMA refund request thing and now have to wait for my money to post back to my debit card account which will probably take 2 weeks. In the meantime I think I'm gonna have to do a little homework. Here's what I'm looking at.

http://snipurl.com/3hvjv

I eliminated all that was too expensive, and most importantly eliminated any brands that use status-now for their rebates. I'll never do business with those scumbags ever again. So anyone have opinions on what to try next out of these. The second to the last one the OCZ Reaper Edition is kinda expensive out the gate, but is the only one that says it has D9 chips. Anyone want to chip in on any of these 1066 sticks. I really need these to clear a bottleneck that right now has me running my memory at 850, when I can be running at 1063 with my current settings. I wanna make sure I'm getting true 1066MHz chips, not some tweaked crap.

Payton,
I've purchased 5 or 6 sets of the OCZ Platinum Series DDR and DDR2 dual channel kits, and have been bug free. They're not as cool :) as the Reaper series, but I've heard of issues getting 4 of them in a board, no personal experience with them.
The OCZs have a limitted lifetime warrantee, but I've never had to avail myself of this service, so don't know how well it works from personal experience.

Good luck

I had a set of the OCZ platinums but they weren't exactly stellar performers on this board. But those were 800's. Even mediocre performance at 1066 is gonna be a big jump for me. The Everest Cache Memory test did show the 2 gigs of patriot running at 850 were a tad faster than the 3 gigs of Geil so I'm sure the Patriot is good memory. But I'm gonna look elsewhere for now.

I'd go with the Kingston Hyper-X sticks. Just make sure you can turn the voltage up to 2.2v in the BIOS config.

Dont get any of those. The Crucial are single sided modules and they dont OC worth a dam.I had a set and sold them within a week of buying them.I went on eBay and found 2 sets of the double sided D9 versions.

But dont waste you your time on 2x1gb set.Get a set of 2x2gb.Even though your running 32bit OS you will still benfit from the 4gbs.Ill be selling my 4x1gb of Ballistix PC2 8500 and they do 1200 at 5-5-5-15 with 2.25v.But you dont want them.Payton i can hook you with Windows XP Pro 64bit if you want.I have a copy you can have with legit key.

Both of these sets people are raving about

Oh man I'm soooooo p**sed off right now. This damn 8800GT freezes up anytime even the slightest graphic intensive program starts. I'm ready to RMA this one too and just buy a camera.

LOL @ mothow That's $1 less than I paid for the 8800!
I'm gonna throw this on the IP35 and see if I get any better luck.

What cost $1 less than the 8800GT? The The G Skill PC2 8500 2x2gb?

Is your 8800GT overheating? What drivers are you using? Did you install the physx driver?Maybe thats the problem. But im betting its over heating if you have the single slot version.Maybe cranking the fan to 100% when your gamimg or what ever will help

Welcome to the great world of Nvidia graphics cards! Recently it was determined that a large number of mobile graphics chips where faulty (G84/G86), and it is now rumored that possibly G92 chips are also faulty. Nvidia sure needs to straighten things out, as they have been having some major quality control issues lately. I own both a G84 (8600M GT in my laptop) and a G92 (8800GT in my desktop) graphics chip, and it is possible they could both be faulty and fail sometime in the future. Needless to say, I am pretty ticked off at Nvidia as of lately. And it's not the first time I have had problems with Nvidia cards either, the first PC I ever bought brand new came with a MX420 which was DOA, and my Geforce 6800 failed after 6 months of use, but was replaced for free by BFG.

In regards to the generallity(not a word) of this thread, I have a question.

My ram is OCZ DDR2 1066 4GB and I am running a Q6600 at 2.4ghz stock speeds. What should my ram be running at and how do I tell?

Your ram might be running at DDR2-800 speeds (400Mhz), but you will want it to run at DDR2-1066 speeds (533Mhz) so that you are getting the full potential of your ram. Download CPU-Z, and it will tell you what your memory speed is.

Yes, if it's running at 533Mhz according to CPU-z then your memory is running at it's maximum rated speed. Remember it's Double Data Rate (DDR), so they call it DDR2-1066, but effectively the clockspeed of the ram is 533Mhz (1066 divided by 2).

Actually, this PNY XLR8 card is pretty nice. It seems that while I still had my 7800GT in, trying to punch the RAM up to it's "rated" (cough cough puke) speed it corrupted a bunch of the system files. So I just wiped everything and reinstalled. Now the card is running fine at about 180FPS in AquaMark3 at stock speeds 600/1500/1800.

The game that came bundled Frontlines Fuel of War looks pretty tight too but I haven't really had a chance to get into it yet, although for a huge 12GB installation it ought to be good! Not a bad deal for a total of $120 without a rebate.

These memory prices right now are so crazy, I'm just gonna wait till the money gets put back into my account, then reassess what's available. Tom, IM me if you're planning any garage sales soon! LOL

I was eyeing up that card to, but I decided on the Asus one for the same price but had a $20 MIR, (If it actually works, I made out better!) And the glaciator heatsink looked more promising for quietness and cooling. :) It also came with the "Alone in the Dark" game

I looked at that one too. But I have this really bad cat hair problem, and those finned under fan coolers are a real pain for me. They clog up easy and are hard too clean. I learned that lesson from my Zalman. The old evga card with similar cooling set up was a breeze to keep clean.

That rebate company is a rip off. Make sure you keep copies of everything. I sent mine certified return receipt. They claimed they got it two weeks after the date on the receipt. After 12 weeks I sent them an e-mail link to another forum where I basically ripped them a few new orifices. Some idiot from the company actually joined the forum so he could respond. He had all these BS excuses that I countered with documentation. I basically pwnd him so bad the other people on the forum told him to STFU and take a hike. I finally got my $40 15 weeks after I sent it in. And to top that off this was the 3rd time they tried to deny my rebate through lies. Once with Mushkin, and once with Geil. I won't buy anything with that company handling the rebate unless it's a great deal before the rebate. Like my CoolerMaster 600W power supply $40 with a $40 rebate.
