I am going to upgrade this last component in my pc but need some feedback first!

From the reviews I've read the HD4850 seems to have the edge over the 9800GTX but I just want to be sure. Currently I have a few deals in my local store and am going to take advantage of them. I hope this is a worthy upgrade as I am selling my HD3850 for 100$ to a friend anyhow to help pay for the new card. Here are my choices:

ATI Radeon HD4850 512MB - 199$
BFG GeForce 9800 GTX+ OC 512mb -179$
EVGA e-GeForce 8800GT 512MB - 119$
ATI Radeon HD 3870 512MB GDDR4 - 179$

Please tell me the 4850 is worth it?

Any one of those cards are good. I would recommend you the hd4850 due to the fact that you already have an ati card and also about our discussion in my topic about drivers/image quality, etc between ati and nvidia. In all I think you would be happier staying with ATI

I agree with that. I want to make sure the 9800GTX+ OC doesn't kick ass though before I do buy it!

they are roughly the same speed wise, you'll have to decide which offers the features you want.

the ATI card will give you DX 10.1 where the nVidia card will give you GPU physX.

Wow I'm shocked!

I've looked at several reviews and came to the conclusion that the 9800GTX+ is just a tad better than the HD4850! I did not know this. The card is 20 bucks cheaper for me so I'm likely picking it up tonight. I really don't care whether it's ATI or Nvidia, I just want the most FPS really. Is BFG still good anymore? Here is the card exactly, is there anything else I need for the card to run? I see that it 'Requires NVIDIA HybridPower™- enabled motherboard.' What does this mean?

From the reviews that I read (I read so many), the HD4850 is head to head with the 9800GTX+.

With the HD 4850, you get DX10.1...as already mentioned.
With the 9800GTX+, you get PhysX and CUDA.

Power consumption is almost identical, but the 9800GTX+ is a little bit better.

As far as I know, HybridPower is not a MUST. You still could run the card without it...
you will just lose the benefit of it.

If you have a built-In GPU,
if it is Geforce, the GTX+ power consumption will drop to ZERO watts when not using 3D apps.
if it is not a geforce, the GTX+ power consumption will drop to 25 watts.

That's all I know...which ever card you buy, you will not regret it.

Best of Luck :)

Hybridpower only matters if you're running in SLI mode - it is Nvidia's buzzword to save a little power when running SLI and the secondary card does not need to run at full throttle.

Ah good, so nothing I will need worry about since I will never use SLI lol. I am hoping this card is small enough/or my case is big enough to hold it though. My current HD3850 is already quite large, just hoping the 9800GTX+ fits! :(

What about BFG though? Are they reliable still?

My last 7900GT from them burnt out within a few months, although, I read that those particular cards had weird issues like that.

I'm off to get it! I'll let you know how it goes. The sale ends tomorrow and I find 179$ is ridicously low!

So here's how it went...

I went to the store and they had never even heard of the deal or the card in their flyer!!!

I decided to order it from the internet instead of buying the 199$ HD4850 that was there.

Bastards!!!

lol no. When I got there he brought it out and also looked it up on the internet, he still didn't understand why he hadn't known of it... and then he started trying to sell me the Evga one for 250$...? I was like screw you I want my 179$ card.

So now I just went on the internet to order it and it said In Stock - until my order was done. Now it says Out of Stock...f**kers. Still bought it though for 179$, now they have to give it to me haha.

You must have ordered the last one they had in stock. Websites are usually linked directly to the warehouse database.

Yes I love it when that happens, usually if they don't have a product available or at the price stated in the flier then you have the legal right to buy it at that price or receive a better product for that same price. I think it has something to do with false advertising?

HybridPower has nothing to do with SLi
