been quite sometime since ive built me a new setup and i guess now its time.
looking at the following.

AMD Phenom X4 9950 2.6
Sapphire HD4870 X2
Corsair Dominator 4GB (2x2GB)

Probably going to go with Antec Twelve Hundred Case.
I already have 4X75GB Raptors HDDs.
What is a good cooling fan for this cpu?
Whats a good mobo for this setup? Would like HDMI on it to connect my ps3 if possible.
What is a good power supply for this setup too?

Thanks Guys.

Unless you are dropping that chip in a motherboard you already have and your budget permitts I would suggest an Intel quad instead of the phenom.

GTX 280 @ 700MHz | SB X-Fi | 2x 150GB Raptors in RAID 0

the core 2 quads are pretty cheep right now (under $200) and they are really nice and as far as I can tell from all of the reviews I have read, way better than amd atm.

ok well what about the new nvidia gt 280 cards?
was reaslly excited about the hd4870x2 cards.
guess all these new cards run really hot?

what if i dont do quad core and get dual core:
like the intel e8400 any big reason to go to quad core?

how does the q6600 compare to the e8400?

i use a Quad and im really happy with it.. however, a E8400 can clock really high and already has a higher clock to begin with.. at the moment, since there arent really any multi-threaded programs surpassing a dual core, I'd probably go for the E8400.. by the time quad cores are utilized, i'd be buying a newer version of it..

and screw the gt280, (no pun intended), reading all the reviews, the 4870x2 seems just as good as the 280, if not even better in some results.. i'd probably say the 4870 will have higher temps considering its a dual gpu though, if u got a good case and fans i wouldnt worry too much though...

As for the PSU, i'd stick with a corsair, i love their stability and reliability.. i'd say at least a 650watt should be good enough...

In general the AMD chips are about 15 to 25% less efficent than the Intel chips clock for clock... In some applications they can be as much as 30 or 40% slower at the same clock speed. If you have the money to be considering a 4870 x2 steer clear from the Phenom. Get a Core 2 Quad preferably one of the Yorkfield core chips (Q9xx0 series) they are faster than the Kentsfield chips (Q6xx0 series) at the same speed, run cooler, and have SSE4 which will come in handy with future applications.

or with these new setups is it intel goes with nvidia only and amd goes with ati only?

you can use crossfire on any non nVidia chipset based motherboard with two PCIe x16 slots.

Excellent board that is highly tweakable and very stable (once configured properly). ASUS does have a history of being finnicky about tuning paramiters and configuration, but once set up properly they're reletively bulletproof. (Yes, I'm a fan of ASUS).
Just keep in mind that with dual HD4870x2s you will only have access to one PCI slot and one PCI-Ex1 slot.
