The problem: For some reason, when I speak into my headset, my voice booms from the speakers instead of being picked up by WoW's voice chat or Ventrilo. I have used these apps for voice chat for quite a while and have never had this issue before. I am unsure as how to proceed from here.
BTW even after I disabled ALL recording and playback features in windows, my mic still picks up and blasts the audio from my desktop speakers. I have tried 2 different headsets.

Some sound cards install their own application for management and this is where you may need to modify your setting. In Windows make sure you remove the MIC for playback of course.
