I want to order some new DDR SDRAM on-line but don't know the correct DIMM count. Is there a way I can find that out without opening my computer and actually taking the ram out and counting the pins? What ever happened to good old fashioned RAM? There's way too many different kinds and it can get frustrating trying to buy something you know nothing about. Thanks in advance for any replies.

CPU-Z and/or SIW should be able to tell you what type of RAM you have, DDR or DDR2. If it's more than a couple of years old it's almost certainly DDR, however. The types are standard so if it's DDR2, it'll be 240 pin (IIRC, double check that) and if it's DDR it'll be whatever pin count DDR uses.

DDR, DDR-2 and DDR-3 SDRAM on DESKTOPS all have specific pin counts.
If you have DDR, then the pin count is the same for all DDR SDRAM in a DESKTOP.
Please see:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DDR_SDRAM
It will give you the specifications, and pin counts for the differing types.

It's regular DDR but there are three different pin counts for it at the site I'm looking at (bestbuy.com)

The different pin counts are for different laptops, then desktops.
The pin count is the same for all DDR standard desktops.
