I have a notebook laptop ( Sony Viao model # PCG R505DL ) Recently it has gotten the blue screen or can't find the os and the hard drive is making a tin can noise.

Question:
can i just replace the hard drive and install an os i have the application and driver recovery discs.
I would like to know what i can replace it with the hard drive itself says ATA so i assume that would be a good replacement.
Do i need to know the pin number.
will replacing the hard drive effect anything else or vice versa
I have basic technical know how so i just would like to know if this would work any help would be appreciated thank you

Sounds like to me you have a bad hard drive if it is making a tin can noise reguardless that you are getting blue screens.

Yes you can replace the hard drive and re-install the OS if you have the apps and driver recovery discs. ATA is the type of hard drive you will need to buy as a replacement HD. You might want to take this oppontunity and buy a larger size HD too. No replacing the HD will not effect anything else. But remember unless you have a good backup of your data and documents they will be lost.

I am not sure what PIN number you are talking about. Can not help you there.

yes when i buy a new HD i was going to get a bigger size if only for the fact that economically it makes sense( $50 for 160gigs) and i hated having no space on this laptop i mean my zune has 30gigs a laptop should def have more.
