Dont buy a creative card. They are to soundcards as bose is to speakers, overpriced and low quality. The soundblaster chip, used by creative, resamples everything to 48/96KHz regardless of the input or output to the card. That basically renders any creative card a useless piece of junk, you may as well use the onboard audio.
If you want good sound quality cheaply go for the e-mu 0404 PCI or M-Audio 2496. The problem is that they're stereo cards so if your after gaming go for the M-Audio Revolution 7.1 - Qualities not as high but its still a hell of a lot better than creative.

What ever you like go for it your the one that has to use it.I personally have had no problems with Creative's sound cards.No matter what though they are much better than onboard audio.Mine sounds great no popping or hissing and my Z5300E's never sounded so good.
