Hi Everyone.

I have the following problem. My computer has three registered users, including me. Recently I set up a password for all three to prevent my daughter to get into her account since she's been spending too much time chatting on the internet, which I don't like at all.

The problem is she still can access it and continues the chatting for hours.

Can anyone tell me how come she can have access with a password set on her account? I'm sure she doesn't know this password.

Also I know that I can install a screensaver with a password, but I'm not sure which one is safe from viruses and malware.

Please help.

Are you *SURE* she's accessing her own account? Try changing the password on her account, then change the password on the Administrator account too. Sounds to me like she's backdooring somewhere along the line like that.

Hi, Rhort. Thank you for your response. I did change the password for her account and also the Administrator's but she's still been able to access it.

I think she's using some trick to get in, as you say, backdoor wise.

Please, everyone, keep giving me ideas on how to prevent my daughter to spend so much time chatting.

Regards.

Well, in Windows XP you can go to Safe Mode and erase the password from there. Just go to user accounts and delete it, it doesn't even ask for the password as long as your administrator.

Meats, thank you for your response. I followed your suggestion: went into safe mode and within the Administrator account I set a new password on my daughter's account but she's still able to login on her own account, One thing I noticed is that she logged in using a password of only two characters, so it was different to the one I set in. All ideas your are welcome.

is the guest account disabled?
does she have access to any other account? sure she doesn't have your or your wifes password? or that your wife might enabled her to get on.

also, if you set a password for the administrator account you should also not be able to enter safe mode without entering the password, which means setting a password on the main administrator account for the local machine. this is not done be default in win XP.

you can also enforce the entering of passwords by requiring the "monkey grip" or "ctrl-alt-del" to log on. this can be done in the user account settings.

You can either be part of the problem or be part of the solution.
