im thinking about getting a new computer (mine is older than 9 years) and I ran across a snag in my cerebrum, i was wondering is a intel core 2 quad with a speed of 3.0GHz better than a intel core 2 DUO with a speed of 3.33 GHz what i want to know is :will crysis play on it?

For 300mhz Differnce id say the Quad would be a smarter move

plus the stuff thats offloaded from the other cores (firewalls and AV and what not) should make up the differnce and general better multitasking would be a worthy tradeoff plus its buying new tech not old =P

I play it at 1920x1200 with all settings on Very High and 2xAA with the system in my sig. I don't know exactly what my average FPS is but the game is not choppy.

Now theres a modding challenge im sure someone would be willing to take up =)

Im thinking somthing along the lines of a metal container you put the mixture into, peltier coolers cooling the container and heatsinks connected to a water cooling system to cool the peltiers should do the job just nicely! Maybe mounted into a 2x 5.25" bay/tray.

i think i could do that with my dad but there would be major problems with my wish
1. if i spill the ice cream on my $100 keyboard ill probably yell cus and waste money buying another.
2. im not allowed to eat in my room (because my sister eats in hers and we found a rat in her plastic tub container).
3. my mom will think im crazy and put me in a mental intitution (trust me she knows crazy she deals with crack heads and drug abusers, shes a lawyer.)
4. my dad will laugh at it (he's a network manager for anyone who needs him.)
5. my sister will steal some of my ice cream.
and 6. if it gets messy it will probably mess up my computer:P

lol I can relate to the sister and dirty room thing but it was maggots for her not nice....

also i spilt a half bottle of lucozade over a work computer and thought I got away with it after I wiped it up... not so next day the keyboard had gone all 'gammy' and the keys took like two seconds to return after pressed down yeah.... that was swiftly hidden away

and FINNALY mess in a computer is just excuse to upgrade =P

I like the Ice Cream idea very much. But I advise that you look more at the video card offerings since Crysis is quote demanding on the GPU more so than on the cpu. A 8800gtor anythig above in performance is perfect.

EVGA GeForce 8500 GT Video Card - 1GB GDDR2, PCI Express, SLI Ready, (Dual Link) DVI, VGA, HDTV

That video card is not going to be fast enough to really play crysis... oh sure the program will start and all but it will not exactly be an enjoyable experience.

If you're wanting to play crysis you should shoot for a GeForce 9600GT / ATi 3870 or higher.

8800GT, 9800gt (same as 8800), 8800gtx, 9800GTX +, 260GTX, 260GTX-216 which basically has the shader cores increased to 216 from 192, from Nvidia or 3870HD, 4850, 4870, 4870X2 from Ati.

To my understanding all of these cards support HDMI and they all include the DVI to HDMI converter in the box.

I have finally found the best processer for this, its called a intel extreme.
it has a quad core and the best one runs at 3.20 gigs, one downside though, it costs over $1000!
but i can manage since the computer i am creating even with all the extras is $3500 and thats with the intel core extreme and about 5 extras and overnight shiping and handling.
what do you guys think about that?

If you want a 3.2GHz quadcore you could get a Q9450 and turn the FSB up to 400MHz... The stock speed is only 2.66 but with a 400MHz bus the chip runs at 3.2, it is a pretty easy overclock, mine is still running at stock volatage. Then you save about 700 bucks and its just as fast.

Yep, extreme CPU line is for those with more money than sense (or pro-clockers who need the unlocked multi).

Your system seems extremely expensive though.

You should be able to get the bones of it together for around $600 (CPU, mobo, ram & vid card).

For that sort of money you should be looking at at least HD4870 / GTX280, 24" screen, fast quad, 4GiB DDR2, decent HDD or 2, good mobo.

That would be around $1000 (give or take depending on the monitor)

You know in reality if you get something like a E6600 (2.4GHz Intel dual core) or better you would have all processor you will need to play Crysis just fine. What you really should be focusing on is the video card... That is the part that is going to really feel the pain when you start turning up the settings in the game. Spending half your lifes savings on a processor to play Crysis is going to be a wash since pretty much no matter what you buy you are going to end up GPU limited in that game.

A 3.0GHz pentium 4 with a GeForce 7600 for a video card and a 4.0GHz Quad core with a GeForce 7600 for a video card will net you virtually identical Crysis performance because the game will only go as fast as the slowest part.

hmmm, you'll need AT LEAST;
4 HD 4870x2 gpu's, 2 Q9550's, 16 GB of DDR4-3000 ram, and 4 256GB SSD in raid7
just to even make it remotely possible to play crysis at 1024x768

G.Skill 2 x 1GB DDR 400 @ 2.5-3-3-6

whoa! a 4.0 GHz? they make those? i was looking at TigerDirect for my stuff.
but i finally found the perfect monitor, it's not only a monitor its a tv it also has 1080p and vga,dvi ,and 3 hdmi inputs for only $500! (all female except dvi, by the way has anyone even heard of a male dvi slot?) i have another video card o found to my liking its a KFA2 GeForce 9600 GT Video Card it has a hdmi output so no more converter or a adio cable for me since HDMI gives not only picture quality but sound as well, unlike DVI cables so right now im in the process of getting a new job so i can save up for this ultimate computer my budget will have to be 3000 dollars since the job im looking at right now pays at my hours $140 a week and we get a check every 2 weeks which means $280 every payday and $560 a month the total amount of months it will be before i can get this computer counting 300 off my pay check each month and adding $600 for other income and it takes me 5 months to get this computer. so until december 25 2009 i will take any thoughts from anyone.

not at stock speed, but it is attainable with some of the higher-end quads and good cooling.

A 9600GT will not give you playable frame rates in crysis at 1080p resoloution. If you're going to play at 1080p (1920x1080) you will need something more along the lines of a Geforce GTX 260 / Radeon HD 4870 1GB or better.
