LOL. You should add to the title "... and Destruction". ;) Hope you didn't break the CCFLs, those things contain mercury!

Any pictures? :)

Damn, why didn't I think of that? :( By now it's in a landfill somewhere.

Hope you didn't break the CCFLs, those things contain mercury!

I had taken them out when I was looking to see what happened in there (before the claw hammer had its say). They looked fine, but I did take care of them. There's an electronics disposal service at the University.

Although ... when I was first messing with this a couple of months ago, I did accidentally snap one apart in my hands. I just looked at it and said "Oh ... s**t." :X

You won't get AIDS from mercury, you will get brain damage.

I used to play with mercury from broken thermometers as a child, I even saved it up and had a pretty large ball of it from about 7 thermometers over time (my mom was a nurse so I had access to bunches of them).
I've also soldered for about 35 years.
I think the whole mercury/lead thing is a conspiracy cooked up my hazardous waste companies to increase business.

We also had lead based paint in the first 2 houses I lived in.

I'm not drain bamaged.....much.

So, ever since this "unfortunate" incident, I've been scared that my inverters are going to crap out. I found the same model laptop as mine on Craigslist for $35 (broken, for parts only). It was stripped down, with the DVD burner, memory, CPU and HDD removed, and the motherboard is fried. The actual LCD doesn't seem to work either.

I bought it anyway, tested the inverter and ... it works! So now I have a working spare inverter! :D
