Hi I currently have that defect problem. I have a Dell laptop 5150 and know about that defect.

well the chip is already damaged to a point where it won't work. So I bought a new chip from eBay to replace the chip.

My problem now is taking the chip off the board and replacing it. Me and my dad has tried to desodder it and we couldn't get it going.

my dad has many years of experience in soddering and he wasn't able to desodder this chip.

is there any way I can desodder the chip that is part of that cpanel defect???

What temp would I need to set the sodder gun to??? My dad thinks that this chip uses steel legs with a tad of sodder to bind the 14 pin chip to the board.

I am asking for suggestions on what I could do to desodder the chip. We tried using the desodder tape and also the sodder sucker.

if you have any ideas or experienced taking this chip off the board please to share your experiences here.

I am trying to get this fixed as soon as possible.

thanks for your time.

Hey there,

My recommendation on this is to take it to a professional laptop repair shop. You are working with very sensitive components, and you have to get everything right. It's not worth losing the laptop over a minor mistake.

Well, this is my sisters laptop she already bought one. She said I can have the laptop if I fix it.

I bought the chip. I also have previous experience in soldering. I had a high school class electronics that prepared me for the A+ exam in computer repair.

I know how to sodder and I do have the tools. I tried desoddering it. I currently tried the laptop which it still works I can see leds light up dull which is the same symptoms of this defect.

I need to replace the chip. I wondered if there is a special technique on getting this chip desodders since it's a small 14 pin chip.

My dad is a eletronic engineer and he even tried to help me desodder the chip.

My dad said to me that Dell must of used a robotic spot welder for all the components.

He said if that is the case you can only cut the chip legs and remove it that way.

however I got alot of advice that you can easily desodder it and many people have.

yet we are not able to. We tried many ways.

is their any ways you can suggest??? does anyone has experience with the Dell laptop 5150. I already have the chip just need to take out the old damaged one and put in the new one.

I do have experience with soldering but thought maybe I was doing something wrong so I had my dad help and he couldn't get it to desodder and he has many many years of experience.

He told me that it look like that it's been spot welded. The guy that sold me the chip I asked advice from him and he told me to add some sodder to the legs and then use the desodder tap to have the sodder stick to that. I never tried it due to not having it on hand so I tried a sodder sucker but was no luck this chip is really small. it's a 14 pin chip and it's small.

I would like to know how others were able to desodder this. I have found pages on here that say they replaced the chip.
