>> Re: Overclocking the athlon xp 2000 problems!!!
Sorry for the no post, ooops...
Anyway, I have just received the barton 2500+ and I have overclocked it considerably, 12x175 = 2.11 ghz. Its about a 2900+ Oced.

My brother wants his new computer, with a xp 2000+ to be overclocked, after he saw the results on my computer. I believe its a palamino. I tried increasing the FSB first because I was lazy and didn't feel like unlocking the multiplier. He has pc2700 ram, so I thought it would be fine raising the FSB from 133 to 140, just a small boost. It crashed once it started playing some intense games like battlefield 1942. I saw the temps, and they are pretty high, like 135 F. Do you think that it is the temp of the processor making it crash? Should I just unlock the multiplier? Any answers are appreciated!! Thanx.

Unlocking the multiplier would result in a more stable overclock!

The palamio produces lots of heat and is poor at overclocking. You might get a little more out of it with a flash heatsink and fan but you won't get much above XP2200, if you can get that far.

AMD abandoned the XP2200 palamio as the couldn't get it to work reliably while the XP2100 I have ran very hot, 60C with only a slight overclock..

Why not sell the XP2000 and buy a cheap but highly overclockable XP1700 Tbred with the proceeds.

Ant

Sounds like the cpu might not be that good for overclocking, why don't you move to the graphics card instead? Usually an overclocked video card will give you more of a performance boost in games than an overclocked cpu.
