Hi all,

Been ages since I actually started a thread on HWA :D

Anyhoo, just bought a new laptop and gifted my old PC to my daughter, it currently has the flawless Trend Micro Internet Security Suite on it but I am not going to be shelling out £40 for a new subscription so looking to move back a free option here.

The machine specs are basic:

AMD Duron 1.2 Ghz
768 Mb RAM
XP Pro SP2 (full specs on prof)

Security:
Adaware SE
Spybot SD
Spywareblaster
Ccleaner

Can anyone recommend a free antivirus download - used to be that AVG and Antivir were the boss in this department but I'm sure this has changed.

Look forward to your recommendations.

Edit due to less than flawless spelling :X

I recommend Avast! antivirus.

Free (requires you to register once a year though)
Also light on resources and automatically updates itself. :)

I found these 'free' Anti-Virus/Spyware software absolutely incompetent and useless against latest and dangerous threats.

I can either recommend Kaspersky or NOD32 (ESET).

Same here...........

I run Kaspersky on 2 computers and BitDefender on the other one. They use very little of your system resources even while running a scan.

That's my fear - I used AVG up until 3 years ago when I moved to a paid sub with trend. never had an infection with AVG or Trend. things have moved on and that's why i posted the thread to get all POV.

Cheers for chippin' in all. ;)
