I Have this used ell Inspiron 1150 and the computer when you plug the charger a green light comes in, then flashes an amber or yellowish lights, when you turn on the laptop it all looks like it's going to boot, but then it just shuts off again, I read the previous issue on the other 1150 inspiron, I tried the external monitor, but that didn't work, I have replaced the memory, even took out the battery, and removed the hard drive, I don't even see the Dell bootup screen, any help with this will be greatly appriciated. Thank you.

Sounds to me like you have the ever present adapter connector problem. When the battery is not installed, try to boot, do you get the lights? If the battery is installed, and tries to boot, the level of charge may not be high enough to do the job so it shuts down. Most times, the adapter connector doesn't need replacing, just re-soldering. The problem is it takes more time to take it apart than do the repair. Hope this helps. Good luck.

Sorry for the editting. I just washed my hands and can't seem to do a thing with them.:)

I have tried that already the system doesn't boot with the battery or without the battery all it does is make the noise like it's going to boot up, flash he keyboard led, and shutdown again tried it with the power cord, and without the power cord since the battery appears to be in fair condition.

Still think it's the adapter connection issue.

Hello. It seems to me that we both are having the same problem. What I did was I just turned off the computer completely, I left the power adapter plugged in overnight and it gave it a full charge. The reason it was shutting down on it's own is because of lack of juice. Try that. Also, I had reseated my memory stick and I had complete boot from my laptop. That is until it ask me for a admin password that I don't know. LOL If you have any info on that please email me. My email is luisla@optonline.net
Good luck!

Have you been able to make any progress on this one? If you have, we would all benefit from knowing what was done. Thanks,

It was an adapter problem, the connector had lost it's grounding wire so it wouldn't charge the battery or able to work on regular power.

Thanks for the feed back. It proves once again that Dell's 1150 and 5150 have and will continue to have power related problems. Good for my business, but a pain for their owners.
