Not sure, but what I do is take a look at a few reviews and find out what the reviewers hit for clockspeeds then try to fiddle around those to see what you can get.

Im aiming to rip the balls off it because Im planning to upgrade to a new card next month. I would rather not cause damage to the card, so I was looking for some insight.

Ive seen numerous things on the net, so we'll see.

ive been debating that for a while, between a 295 of a 4870x2.
I think this forum has convinced me to go for the 295

Ive always known that the card is holding back my system which Im otherwise pretty proud of

Personally I see the 295 as being a waste of money. If I were to buy a card now with your system, it would be a cheap 4850/9800GTX then upgrade to the NEXT GEN card that will kill the 295 in coming months. A 4850 would be able to run any game you can think of on any graphic setting no problem. I guess it depends if you want to spend $170 or $600...

Get the latest version of EVGA Precision Utility from evga.com for free and uncheck the AUTO for the fan control, set it between 40-65% speed, and slowly adjust/increase clocks.

I find this easier to use than the RivaTuner altough I like the many extra options rivatuner gives.

I hate all that software overclocking and how it always has to start with windows and set the clocks etc. I just edit the videocard bios and input the clocks there, then flash the card and voila, it's always overclocked no need to worry.

Ofc it's riskier but usually you can see what other people got for their clocks, and just use that as a reference.
