"GameSpy Arcade has detected that your computer's internal IP address( xx.x.x.x) is different than its external IP address (xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx ). This may be caused by firewalls, a NAT proxies, or other unusual network configuration."

I am unable to successfully join or host games. I tried to use portforward.com's settings. Does not work. I tried to disable firewalls. Nope.

Help! thanks

>> Re: Multiplayer help..Age of Empires 2, joining/hosting games problem
Okay -- Age of Empires 2's networking engine is built on a house of cards that's been doused in gasoline and lit on fire. I have no idea how Microsoft, Ensemble, or anyone remotely responsible for contributing so much as a single character to the source code can call that game "TCP/IP supportive." Let me explain some things:

1.) I have no idea if it's even possible to play Age of Empires 2 over the internet anymore. If that's what you're trying to do, I would suggest using a VPN. You might try LogMeIn Hamachi ( ), but my attempts at using this program to get AoE II working over the internet failed.

2.) If you're using a noCD hack, stop. Uninstall the game completely, and reinstall it. Deal with using the CD, because something about using a noCD hack completely effs up the networking.

3.) Make sure you're both patched to the latest version:
--------Age of Kings: v2.0a ( http://www.microsoft.com/games/age2/downloads.htm )
--------The Conquerors: v1.0c ( http://www.microsoft.com/games/conquerors/downloads.aspx?f1=no )

4.) If you're playing over a LAN, you're in luck. Apparently LANs are just simple enough for Age of Empires 2 not to completely f**k up -- but if you're doing this, ensure that your firewalls have the game permitted (on both inbound and outbound connections), and (this is the important part) that you are both using static IP addresses (that means you need to manually type them in, rather than let your router assign them).

If anyone else knows how to make this work a lot easier, I'm all ears -- but across several variants of routers, switches, all with multiple firmware revisions, I have never, ever gotten Age of Empires II to work in a multiplayer game on a LAN -- let alone over the internet (without MSN Gaming Zone -- which is now defunct).

Age of Empires 2 works perfectly over a LAN. Setting up a LAN unfortunately is a bit complicated and you might need help. If it's just between two comps you dont need a hub, instead a direct network cable will work fine, connected to ehternet ports.
You first need to make sure both machines have network adapters and make sure they are enabled. After that attach the network wire and restart the comps. You need to check the firewall, set you IP manually and subnet .... If one machine's IP is 155.211.203.1 the other one's should be 155.211.203.2 That's an example. The subnet configuration again needs to be identical, unlike the IP.

B/W once you manage to setup the LAN starting a multiplayer game is a piece of cake. Just make sure both machines have the same version of the game. In the multiplayer menu click on create and then choose the game settings... Click I'm ready. the other player will have to click on show games and enter your IP to get the game list. He can then join the game....

Thanks for the reply. I actually portforwarded the ports used for gaming and it works 95% of the time. Could you teach me how to set up a DMZ?

There is a gaming match making service that I cannot use http://www.igzones.com, because even w/ portforwarding, i cannot enter games. I think DMZ will be the only way, for me and my friend on IGZ, but I have no idea how to configure it.

Thanks for your responses

To get anyone to help you setup DMZ you will need to say what kind of router you have,
my router has a WAN Setup option and from there you can check a box enable the DMZ, next to it there is 4 boxes for you to enter the IP of the system that will be using the DMZ this will be your systems IP in most cases that would be 192.168.0.1

If you have your IP address set to ( get ISP dynamically ) add you set the game up using what ever IP address was asigned to you at that time then ,,since Your IP address is never the same the game is telling you that your IP address is different to the one you first set it up on,,,And the same with who ever your trying to connect to.

Get yourself a static IP address which will fix this problem.

If your worried about running a static IP,,Then I would suggest getting a programm like ( hide my IP Address )so this way you can run your static IP when needed just by turning Hide my IP off and turn it on the rest of the time,,,

Hide my IP works extremely well.

Excellent program. But is there a free equivalent? I would love to try this with the dreadful on-demand service on Blockbuster and Netflix. Since I live in Puerto Rico they won't allow me to watch movies online. >:o >:o >:o >:o

Not that I know of but it's well worth the expense.

Under my admin page, to enable DMZ for WRT160n,

I enter my static IP in destination or source IP address? I am also given the option to choose any IP. Help!

Dudes.

Please heed my information. I have been searching for years, and finally, FINALLY someone put their boot down and made a program to do it!!

http://www.gameranger.com/

Game ranger is a program that allows players to connect to certain games that have multiplayer issues such as AOE 2 and expansion. There are servers as I type of a poop ton of people playing AOE and expansion RIGHT NOW. Download it and get back into the game of your childhood.

FINALLY!
