here's what my screen looks like at most times. This is the first time I started up my desktop in 4 months (late november). I have a ATi 9800 Pro (AGP 4x/8x 128mb, ancient stuff). Just need a confirmation that it is my video card that is malfunctioning and not my lcd monitor.

I have also tried my lcd monitor on a laptop and it worked fine.

Thanks.

It is often hard to determine what is broke, whether it is the lcd, video card, or a cable-cable input/output.

If you are using dvi from your 9800 to your lcd, then i suggest that you use your cable and monitor and try it on someone elses pc.(#2)

If you use vga from your 9800 and vga from your laptop. It works from your laptop, but not from your desktop, then i would say video card is having a problem.

1.Try both vga and dvi if possible from your 9800 to your lcd.

2.Try the monitor on a friends pc that also has dvi to be sure that it isnt just a bad vga port on your 9800, or a bad cable

3. try updating your video card drivers.
3A. Reinstall windows on a fresh format incase something is corrupt in your os (operation system)

Is that a screenshot? If it is it's not your monitor. I'd give your system a thorough dusting and reseat the card.

yes that is a screenshot. i've already done everything with cleaning the inside of my tower (unplugged, dusted, vaccuumed).

to the first guy that responded to my problem, i downloaded the latest driver and it just made it a little slower when minimizing and maximizing windows.

Well the good news is a new 9800 Pro oughtta be dirt cheap, you might could even go for an X850xx or even an X1900, although I've heard they are flaky and they aren't so cheap, since they're pretty much the best of the last of the AGP breed (or not, no flame! no flame!).

Say, could you possibly post your desktop wallpaper? That looks like a pretty cool picture.

Yeah, I was thinking about getting another one on Newegg or so. Sad news is that they don't carry it anymore (I think its been since 2005 that they stopped making/carrying them). Anyway, I'll just conclude that my video card is malfunctioning and I don't see anything else that's wrong with the performance of my computer.

Oh and yeah I'll post the wallpaper in a few.

Thank you guys for all your help.
