So I'm restoring this VP's personal laptop and I have a slight problem. The machine was having serious problems so I drive erased it and installed XP. Its a acer travelmate 4400. I just got XP professional installed on it. Now that I have it set up and running. None of the internal drivers are present. It's not even detecting the internal wireless card. So I can't get online with it. I've tried searching for a restore disk for it but I can't find one short of paying for from possible bogus venders.

Any ideas or directions?

I''m having similar trouble, but I have an Acer Extensa 4420. I did as the original poster, wiped the drive and put Vista back on the laptop. I cannot get the wireless drivers to install, nor can I get the "modem on high def audio bus" to install. The WLAN hardware is a Broadcom. I've even gone as far as to try drivers from Hp, Dell and Broadcom. Also, I've tried updating from the device manager, referencing to extracted and installed files on the hard drive . The wireless was working fine before the reformat (i.e., the light for wireless on the laptop itself would actually illuminate), and this is the OS that came with the laptop, rather it's OEM Microsoft instead of Acer.

Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

My Acer came with Vista x86, and it was a big pain to find Vista x64 drivers for some things like the wireless.

What Broadcom wireless chipset (eg. BCM4315) is it using? The drivers are out there, although not from Broadcom's s**tty site (which is one reason why I still want to buy an Atheros card to replace mine).

Luckily Windows 7 had the drivers all ready to go, right out of the box.

McFly, I'm gonna post my Acer issues in the Vista forums. I think it wrong of me to take help from the person who started the post. Thanks for all your help. I'll be posting soon.
