nVidia = MAC

p.s. - just got in from outside.... taught my 7yr daughter how to ride her bike without the training wheels.... she did pretty good. after awhile, she was actually peddling herself up and down the culdesac, with me running beside her just for a safety net of course... a few more times and she will be off on her own for sure... Oh by the way.... omg.... I am out of shape for sure... panting and sweating hard after each run.. heheheheh.... I gotta get back into jogging.. I use to do that when I was way young... maybe this is a good time to start and having my daughter with me on her bike... yes sir... a good idea..

This is killing me.
Jeeze, the initial comparison was bogus.
Any comparison of i7 vs Core2Duo, vs AMD 64 or 64X2 or 4 is bogus.
I ran into a problem with my system tonight, and killed about 20 processes, and still had about 60 running. My system runs well, runs the games I want to play OK, but the rest is good.
I can't believe how outdated my system is, and you guys with the most up to date HW, having upgraded every single time a new thing came along....sorry for the dis, but I've been there.....I find myself with an extra $4000 in the bank, and about 10% below what you ubers are doing in FPS, or other gaming capability. Now that 4k would have been 5K, but I've recently bought upgrades, I just can't pull the trigger on getting them installed.....
Why? Because my system does what I want it to...I just want it to be a little bit faster, and be able to tell possible employers that I've implemented the latest technology.

Get a grip folks! If it's just the game, then get a console! If it's about running 70-90 processes, then maybe go AMD with the AM2+ socket, If it's about having the best all around production system, then mayhap my choice of an Intel i7 with triple channel DDR3 is the right approach. I EXPECT that there will be others that can beat my FPS on any game, but I had reasons for going the way I did, and it didn't have anything to do with gaming.....
Having said that, I think the new system will blow my gaming experience away. If not yours, thats OK, I didn't expect to.

I did just upgrade, but I went up from nforce 4 with some shotty videocard. Plus my entire upgrade cost me around 700$ for cpu/ram/mobo and videocard which is actually not so bad for upgrading once in 3-4 years or whatever...

Spending big cash on comp is stupid. parts get outdated too fast.

Oh and if you want an objective view of how things changed for me since the upgrade, my perfomance went up exactly 4 times for anything cpu related and 3 times video related.

If that doesn't sound like much, for me it was helluva improvement. I definitely don't regret my 700 bucks spent and this will last me a good while (except the videocard)

Btw gerrrrtt, I used to have your exact cpu/mobo/ram except my cpu was a 4200+ and ram was ocz pc4000 EB.

Mothow, I'm not understanding your issue here. Is the Intel i7 the best processor, bang for the buck for GAMING? NO. Will it work for games? YES.

The whole time that I've been on this tread/board, I've understood that a processor alone is not the perfect indicator of performance in any specific application.

My i7 920 works for me, and works for the games that I play.
I was on a AMD 4400+ platform, and had to replace just about everything in this last upgrade. Are there others that use AMD AM2 sockets? Yes. I didn't have this option as my AMD was a 939. Your upgrade depends on how old your old HW is/was.

In my case, Intel offered the better bang for the buck.
If you didn't want to indicate that the i7 was BAD for GAMING, then my bad, and my appologies.
