Jesus where do I start mate, well before I go much further I have to say I only have the game a week and I can land any plane in perfect weather so I aint that bad.....but all this business of ILS and that, if I say fly from Dublin (Ireland) to Scotland with the flight planner direct route....and contact the ATC for the runway etc....how the FOOK do I line up the plane without using half the fuel looking for the runway......

No I know there is a really really simple way of doing it and you are going to tell me but I just cant make it out......So enlighten me please.

And also can we fly together multiplayers...and you be my co pilot ns**t!!!! That would be KOOL....

Also I have tryed to D/L my ultimate plane the Airbus A380 and it does not show up in game....any help with that....guys.

I'm a closet geek when it comes to anything that flies "sims". Always been fascinated
by Heli's and Fighter Jets. I take off from RAF Leuchars in Fife, East Scotland, and bomb
my home town about 14 Miles North hahahaha!

I just use my XBOX 360 Controller. Does the job for me!!! :D:D

The X52 would be convenient for planes like a P51, F16, F-22, etc. but not for most commercial aircraft, even the Cessna which is where you should start off. I've read many reviews, and if you want to get as real as you can, get the Saitek PZ44 Pro Flight Yoke System and the http://www.amazon.com/Saitek-Pro-Flight-Rudder-Pedals/dp/B000H67DDY (browse different stores for prices)

I maybe getting those soon, and I am making it harder by using a Joystick. Right now I have the Microsoft Sidewinder force feedback 2, which is awesome for combat planes.

Now for Navigation talk :) Would you believe I did most of the training missions without even bothering to look at this. Boy did I struggle! Until one day I decided to read about it. Now, all I do is engage the autopilot, and it back and relax.

Typically, you can use the GPS or just the navigation system to do all the work. You can flip between these easily, look for the Nav/GPS button or switch.

I will try to explain these in very basic steps - You will have to practice :)

Takeoff
Before take off, the tower should tell you where to go and altitude. Program these in by CTRL+Z and then press CTRL+SHIFT+Z - This allows you to adjust the altitude, use + and - to adjust and you should see the numbers going up or down in the Autopilot panel. Once I take off, I press the Z button to activate the main autopilot and let the plane climb to its designated altitude. You can also click to activate these - you should see buttons such as APR, ALT, MACH, NAV, HDG etc.

Moving around
If you used the flight planner, look at the GPS and you should see (normally purple/white) lines in your GPS. You can flip the switch to GPS and then click on the NAV button on the Autopuloy panel. This will make the plane follow the path on the GPS.

How do I land
I use either the GPS or the Navigation system. If you use the GPS, you havet o activate the approach by pressing the PROC button. You can then select the runway and also the activate the approach. Then go to the Autopilot panel again and click on APR (Approach). The plane should then align itself. Make adjustments to height and throttle as you descend. Make sure you keep in touch with the tower as they will give you instructions for the approach.

The other technique is to switch to Nav. Look ate your map real quick and locate the runway you want to land in. Click on it. You should see two things if ILS is available, Heading and a Frequency. Go to your radio panel and adjust the knobs so that you type in the frequency in NAV1. Make sure to activate it by pressing the NAV1 button around it, you will see it light up. Usually in the map you can also see a morse code ..--...---. etc. Once you are tuned in properly you can match the morse code to make sure you are tuned into the correct runway. Now activate the approach on the autopilot and you will see the airplane line up with the runway.

Practice this a lot and you will get the hang of it. It really isn't that difficult. Sometimes however you will find runways in which you will have to work on the approach yourself, the GPS will only help you so much.

The installation of the planes you download usually include instructions. What you normally have to do is just place the whole folder in your SimObjects\Airplanes directory.

visually without any nav, etc. I make life difficult for myself lol!
I'll fly with you guys at some point in my RAF Tornado!

Also what happened to the so called DX10 on this game. It's more of a Demo is it not?

Well that's good because now you will be trained in case the navigation systems don't align you with the Runway. With regards to DX10, IDK, I have not done any research on that.

If I fly with you guys I'll hop on a SR-71 or an X-15 and leave you behind :P

Well I got my 747-800 pimped out big styleeeeeeeee...took of from glasgow to dublin and landed my first 747-800 trying nothing but the GPS took me 5 goes to get it smack bang smooth on the runway all the same...but it feels much better doing it by the numbers. I did not know about the approch button for the GPS I was just lineing it up myself....

Still I will get more tips from you guys

Its really easy, just hit PROC, hit Ent, then select the Runway, for example GPS 16. Then activate the vectors. Now activate the autopilot and make the switch from Nav to GPS. Now on the autopilot activate APR. Do this about 10 nm from the Runway and it should line up for you.

The other trick I use is when taking off, I align the airplane with the runway and I make a note of how it is centered. For example...the runway has to line up with this button. Then I just use that as a guideline to make a manual approach if I have to :)

Headings help you a lot too. For example, if you are about 15 nm away and you know the runway heading is 322 then start trying to obtain that. By the time you get there you should be aligned.

Wow this game sounds interesting. LeThe that big ass plane wheel you showed would be awesome to play this game. Align that with one of them chairs that have speakers on to your sides and that could be the best experience any game could offer.

I'm wondering... could you really learn to fly with this? Let's say we're all together in the same plane and there's no PILOT!!! Think of it like a Twilight Zone episode. So, the plane is going down. How much is our rate of survival if you guys are on board?

Well it depends on the plane. Different planes have different stall speeds for example. So I would say if you learn to fly on FSX and you are stuck in a Cessna and you use the Yoke from Saitek to learn, you have pretty high chances of survival. I read over the reviews and talked to a few people who are pilots and they say that if you train with the Yoke (not joysticks) you will get very close to how it is in real life.

Of course not 100% realistic since we are not considering traffic and the effects of wind. But yeah, I would say it is pretty realistic.

This game TBH has two levels of play, guys like me that love planes always did and get a thrill of trying to land a 747 in your home airport and fly around thinking you are the "EL CAPITAN".....

Then there are the FREAKY NERDS who have to get every single thing 1000% PERFECT or they go kill the family pet. I mean if you read some of the forums its crazy how obsessed some peeps are....hell if you even YOU TUBE flight simulator there are guys with dual 50" screens with all the trimmings including the headset that when you look around the screen follows you...CRAZY MONEY spent.

But I am deffo gonna master this game....I am sick to death of FPS games and this is a welcome break. The only thing that p**ses me off is that the simulation rate (Speed up game when going trans atlantic for example) is too low. You can only go to x24 or x32 in manual mode and its made hard to control then.

But I am on the case...BIG TIME.,.....now to get that dam AIRBUS A380 installed....

Haha I know what you mean Gary about the obsessed nerds who have basically a monitor/
LCD for every fooking co_ckpit window. I bet they'll wear either Airforce suits, or
airline suits pmsl!

I'll have to reinstall this again tonight. You guys got me back into this. I've not had it
installed since last year. I love the tornado. Parked just outside hanger's at Leuchars
AirBase, start up engines, have cam behind, and listen to the gradual scream of the
turbines, and the glowing burning afterburner starting up, then taxi up to the main
runway.s**t... I sound like a nerd!!! :P

I am UBER combat guy....hell I could fly a chicken!

I have the Deluxe too. I just go to various sites and download 3rd party aircraft.
Such as Flightsim.com, flightsimworld.com http://www.flightsimworld.com/downloads/
I have more on my favs back home, but at work just now. As for accelerated packs...
I've never used them. The 3rd party aircraft I've had in the past, I just extracted to the
specific folders, and away I go.

FTR... I think the choice and amount of planes on FSX Deluxe is p**s poor! Only a handful
of planes that are mediocre for any fun!

Modern combat is actually pretty boring. All you do is point, get a tone, press a button.

Now, if you really want to dogfight, try Warbirds out. Thats the next simulation game that I play with a squadron, all with WW2 planes. That game is amazing. We all take off sometimes in a squadron, up to 8 bombers and three fighters. Everything is really realistic. You can read more about the game here: http://www.totalsims.com/

Oh and about Flight Simulators exagerated setups...check these out:
