On a side note.....

I got my Saitek X52 Pros deliverd to PLUG n PLAY towers today. Man no pictures do these things justice. They are huge, really big, 1st thing that hits you is the build quality and LEDs....I will have to close my curtains when using these as planes will be landing in my front lawn thinking it was a RUNWAY with all the lights......AMAZING piece of kit for bling factor alone.....

Project i7 is to accompany these...hehe

Along the lines of Falcon 4.0 or LOCK ON I suppose. I have Microsoft Combat but it all WWII planes ns**t....I want me some sidewinders ands**t!!!! Hehe.

I got the Jet Pack a while back which includes Mig-29 Fulcrum, F22 Lightning 3 and F-16 Multirole fighter, all from Novalogic. I really enjoyed playing those games, especially F22 Lightning 3. Not 100% sure about them running on Vista 64. I did struggle to get it running on XP x64 but it was a matter of restarting the game and it worked.

OK so I tried the nHancer, no effect at all :(

What I then decided to do was lookout fore newer drivers. Turns out all my main drivers had updates, so I uninstalled the old ones, used Driver Sweeper, then reinstalled the Video, Audio and Chipset drivers. Then I also updated the BIOS and made sure I had the latest Direct-X.

Went back in the game and FPS went up by about 6. I think I'm fine there now. I am not overclocking and settings are pretty high and everything looks very good :)

I have also yet to defrag my extremely messy drive. I heard you can obtain a few more FPS after doing that.

I have to say quite the opposite. I think the nHancer is a good tool, and I wish I'd used
it before. I think the global settings in nVid Desktop interface don't seem to work.
I gave up on them a long time ago. However, the nhancer has done my games justice,
and just goes to prove that forcing from nvid desktop doesn't always work - well in some
of the scenraios i've encountered! Heads up to Plug for that wee gem! Cheers!

....I'm back, but only as a part-timer... :)

Yeah, I was reading about creating a profile with other tools such as the nVidia Desktop or nHancer but for many ppl just going in FSX and applying settings turned out way better.

What I did was I carefully followed a tutorial I found online for FSX. Before I did, I flew a quick Free Flight and made a note of average FPS. Then I applied the new Settings and re-flew. Nothing FPS change. I will go in and try again, maybe Ill try another tutorial.

Plug, I finally got to the mission today where the guy has a heart attack.

Basically you are to turn around and type in the frequency given which is an ADF. This will help you find your way back. Once you are back and you are near the airport, they expect you to land the 737 using the ILS on Runway 24. I just loaded up the airport in the GPS, activated the approach vectors for ILS runway 24 and then the autopilot aligned me for a smooth and easy landing.

Let me know if you need help.

I think the reason why you did not have much performance boost the 1st time is that the drivers you were using were too old. It specifically states you need at least nVidia 185.xx (I Think maybe 182.xx) or higher....then when you uploaded the new drivers use the nHANCER tool it will give you a boost...well it should.

The 1st time I played that mission with the heart attack it was sooooo funny it took me about two days to find the airport.....the poor old dude would have been dead 5 times over!!!!

I have just cleared HAWX on hard and its a bloody good game....a tad samey but great fun if you get it cheap...apparently its very good online with 3/4 peeps flying together. And the amount of planes in the game!!!

I am gonna get back into the missions tonite after my new FORMAT and chocks away...Thanks for the heads up josh, BTW is there any way to load up a free flight that you have to do all that push back from the gates and the sexy female cabin crew.....

Josh,

Where do you put in the ADF freq. in the NAV1 and hit the NAV button....sorry for the dumb question mate....also I manually found the airport the last time but banked to much coming in for a hurried landing and CRASHED. At least the old dude was in no pain!!!

I took some screenshots for ya.

Here is the radio panel with an ADF frequency of 350.5
http://i44.tinypic.com/2i6e075.png

This one shows that I have activated the ADF Pointer. You have to click on it once and then the needle will point to the NDB you are tuned into.
http://i42.tinypic.com/dwavkz.png

Remember to take advantage of the map. You will be routed to the 1st NDB, then a second. The second has a different frequency but you are given a heading so it should be easy to navigate to it.

Now you see why I tortured myself and took a few hours to learn all this stuff :( Its boring and a long read but it's realistic. Navigation is an essential part of flying. I remember when I took up some of the missions without any of the training, I was instructed to do this an that, and VOR this, NAV1 that....all the time I was HUH!??? Now I know what I'm doing and flight experience is awesome. This was my 1st full flight in the 737 and I accomplished it with no problems - it's now fun to play this game and actually know what you are doing and know all the pilot/airport lingo.

Now for the landing.

Open the GPS and Display the Direct-to Waypoint Page
http://i43.tinypic.com/1j6i9t.png

You will see EHRD in NRST or Nearest Arports - Select it with the cursor and then push enter to activate.
http://i42.tinypic.com/oadxn4.png

Now hit the PROC button or APPROACH. Push Enter to select the Approach.
http://i44.tinypic.com/1zz3jb7.png

Scroll down and select ILS 24 and then Activate the Vectors.
http://i43.tinypic.com/2eyz2pi.png

Once you have activated the vectors, make sure you switch from NAV to GPS on the Aircraft's main panel, look around for it. Once you activate the GPS, activate the main autopilot switch and hit the APP button. This will align you with the runway. I usually deactivate the autopilot when I am close and finish the landing myself. For this mission, I had to use a little bit of rudder to align myself perfectly but the landing was very smooth.

Funny,

At the end I do it the opposite way and it works perfect. As soon as I get the runway number I go into the map and get the ILS co-ordinates...as in nav1 freq and course heading. As soon as I get that I switch to NAV FROM GPS!!!

But for this particular mission go the other way around.....hmmm I will try it now...CAPTAIN

Yeah, remember I had told you that you can use either the GPS or NAV. They give you a frequency for Runway 24 which you can put into NAV1 and then enable the Autopilot. If that's the case, you would have to switch from GPS and stay on NAV. I use the GPS because I find it easier and it gives me a nice map lines showing what should be your expected flight path, and your distance from each waypoint.

Oh...and I was wondering. What ILS coordinates are those that you mention?

The ILS directions (I think thats what they are) say you are on final app. and ATC gives you runway X...when you click on the map and click on the airport it gives you the NAV co-ordinates and the ILS course....does it not.

I have to say if I am flying into a small airport and it does not have ILS I am FOOKED!!!! LMAO

OK, you must be referring to the ILS frequencies.

I've done flights on many small strips to learn proper control and alignment. I used to ignore rudder use, but when I started messing around with it, my alignments are always perfect now.

Here is my next buy: http://www.amazon.com/Saitek-Pro-Flight-Rudder-Pedals/dp/B000H...amp;sr=8-1

Rudder is essential alrite....I am really struggling to get to grips with the navigation tutorials in FSX..they are not very well laid out TBH....I am reading them alot more and nothing really sticks.s**t its like being back in school....nothing stuck in there either...lmao

I am so impressed by how playing with the rudder a little bit can change your whole approach experience.

Try flying the lessons as well. There is less reading and more flying/instructing. trust me man, it was torture, I just wanted to get in there and fly but it was all worth it at the end :)

I have no probs actually taking the time and doing the lessons josh, in fact I love all the technical mumbo jumbo. Its just that many of them are so vague while flying. I mean they expect you to know the stuff 100% after reading the small passage. Sometimes its fine others NO WAY....

I will hang in there and learn bit by bit....

As for the rudder, its far easier to use rudder when landing then banking I find....thanx for all the tips mate. ;)

I remember flying some of those training missions with the Joystick. It makes it more difficult because when you turn, it's hard to determine your pitch. Then I would hear "Since this is not going very well, I am going to end the lesson". I am starting to notice that some of the missions and lessons are a bit "off". Sometimes I'll fly a mission and I'll land or something and nothing happens. Then I look at the mission details and it says clearly...land at such place. So I have to close everything and go find a walkthrough somewhere. It's annoying :(

Yeah, the saitek kit you have must be the business. Especially for the fine tune landings.
