ok, dont know what yall are looking for, but ill list as much info as i can .....
like i sed in the subject, i have a
p4 3ghz processor
4x 512 sdram(i think its sdram, not positive tho) sticks with a total of 1.99gb of RAM
70 gb hdd
unsure of the motherboard type ... how can i tell which? (will try to open the case and physicallty look at the motherboard) i had bought a 'custom' built cpu from a friend .... now im try'n to get the most out of it.

also, when oc ... i do not wish, at this time, to use an extra cooling device. (extra fans' or watercooling) <- maybe at a later date i will, if needed.)

ok, a little info of MY pc experience ..... im nowhere near a noob on the pc, as i have custom built my own in the past. altho ive never 'attempted' to overclock, ive always wanted too.

hope i wrote enuff info, if more is needed ... plz ask for it specifically.
thx for the help, ANYONE who cares to offer.

ok yall, im back w/ the info from the motherboard.
unsure which 'code' your looking for but here they are:

INTEL DESKTOP BOARD
D915GAV/D915PGN

also listed on board is
E210882

ok, ive worked in production before, and the sticker usually dont pertain to the type ... rather just a serial number of sorts ... but this sticker w/ a barcode on it is:
LAAV52402032 AA C6(or 8 )4134-402

ok, i googled my board, it sed that it is an:
ATX P4 775 motherboard FSB 800

also, if the OS matters, im runnin XP professional
thx again to anyone replying to this post.

Thank You All,

Try downloading everest home or ultimate and telling us which brand your motherboard is, what kind of bios do you have and what core your processor is.

(This is important since P4 Prescott processors run hotter than other cores, and if you are to overclock with stock cooling that could be a problem).

Also the type of ram helps too, and the motherboard is the main factor here, as some BIOS are locked and will not let you change the options you need to OC.

DIMM2: PNY Tech. (512 MB PC3200 DDR SDRAM)
DIMM3: Samsung M3 68L6523CUS-CCC
DIMM4: 512 MB PC2700 DDR SDRAM

CPU Type Intel Pentium 4 630, 3000 MHz (15 x 200)

BIOS Type AMI
BIOS Version EV91510A.86A.0401.2005.0128.0809

^^^^^^^^^^^^^
this last one .... quick question ...... theres only one cpu, no network.why does it list 2? does this mean its a dual core processor?

No it's a single core processor. Maybe it shows 2 because of the hyper threading? It's a 90nm 84W CPU which means you are going to have very little room to OC w/ stock cooling. A very hot processor!. It's a 775 socket but the board can't upgrade to a dual core CPU (not supported). The first thing I'd do is take out that memory and take it back to the guy who built it and shove it up his a**. I'm surprised the board even runs with 3 different makes of memory and different speeds. What did he do clean out his drawer and throw all his junk odds and ends mismatched memory in your system? Dude that ain't right. He needs a proper thumping. I hate people that pull that kind of s**t! That's the bad news. I doubt that system will even attain a stable overclock. 533MHz mixed with 800MHz memory? The guy must be good to have even got it running...or really lucky. Go to the Intel site and download the manual for that board, see if it has adjustable FSB/multipliers. Unless you can lock the memory speed (at whatever he has it running at) which increases when you OC, I don't think any OCing will be possible. Do yourself a favor and buy some new DDR2 800 memory. The board uses dual channel memory but it won't work with different speeds in different spots. take out the 2 mismatched sticks and leave the samsung. It might feel like an OC if you get the memory running in dual channel. (shakes his head in utter disbelief).

>> Re: help me plz: wanting to oc my p4 3ghz cpu
first off, when i got the pc, it only had the 2 samsung 512 sdram sticks in it .... i took the 2 mismatched sticks from my old p3 2.53ghz celeron processor computer and put them in.
believe it or not, those 2 sticks that i put in, where bought at the same place, different times however. (bestbuy)

you sed to take those 2 out? and do what with them? wont my pc suffer from it? DDR2 800s' fit in the same slots? there 4 DIMM slots, when there were only 2 sticks, they were spaced out (0101 <-as if the 0's are slots & 1's being the stick) in the DIMM's. should i place the samsung sticks together, until i am able to get the DDR2 800 sticks?

now a little bit of history of the cpu .... originally, it was one of many that were built, for an office type setting. (workingperson.com's office equipment)

anyhow, i guess they were bought out, and then they upgraded their pc's, selling their old ones to employee's at a deep discount or whatnot. so its never really ran to its full potential. (but now im gonna try too!)

so i got one, added my 2 sticks of the sdram and threw my dvd wrriter in it, to match the dvd rewriter that was already in it.

soo .... i have no clue 'who' built it. but it still beats the hell outta that bs 2.53 p3 celeron i had before hand.

if oc is impossible, i would atleast like to maximize whatever i can on it. i know that is a different topic, requiring a different post in a different section of the forum, but maybe yall can clue me in to a few techniques of bettering my pc experience.
thx again drew

man I looked at this board on Intel and was sure it said DDR2 memory. Guess I was wrong. Also thought you had bought it from someone who built it for you. Anyway, sort out the memory thing. You'll get better performance. Go back into Everest and in the motherboard section click on motherboard and look at memory bus properties and tell me what it says for real clock and effective clock.

first off,
you want me to just take out the two odd sticks of RAM? should i stick the other 2 together, or leave them spaced out?

as far as your request:
Memory Bus Properties
Bus Type Dual DDR SDRAM
Bus Width 128-bit
DRAM:FSB Ratio 5:6
Real Clock 167 MHz (DDR)
Effective Clock 333 MHz
Bandwidth 5333 MB/s

167/333 whats this mean?

thanks 4 tha help hippy .... maybe we should burn together sumtime .... my treat, of course. <\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\#~~~

the memory is dual data rate DDR. So it's actually 166MHz but because its double, the frequency is 333MHz. The problem is that you have 400MHz memory mixed with the 333 so all the memory runs at the slowest modules speed. If you replace the one PC2700 stick with a PC3200 (400MHz) stick, all the memory will run at 400MHz which will be a 1:1 ratio instead of 5:6 and give you a noticeable speed improvement in the system. Until you get the memory matched up, you'll probably have stability problems. Make sure if you buy some more RAM that the store has a good return policy. The Samsung is workstation RAM with high CAS latency of 3. A CAS 2 0r 2.5 might not work with it. Leave them spaced out. Either slot 1 and 3 or 2 and 4. If you decide to buy more look for something like this http://snipurl.com/j5zdp or just replace the one stick. http://snipurl.com/j602f

Assuming the board is the one mentioned near the top of the page (D915GAV)
http://download.intel.com/support/motherboards/desktop/sb/c6413602_en.pdf
The user manual and a quick skim reveals no BIOS options or jumpers to adjust multipliers or FSB

I think the best your going to manage is getting the ram running at 800 by replacing that PC2700 stick as payton said.......

If the bios does not allow you to adjust FSB, core voltage, memory voltage, and a few other parameters.... you are stuck with what you got.... the only way to increase the cpu is to replace it with a faster cpu model... and as it stand, you will be relegated to eBay for any P4 series of processors. Then you have the memory issue (mixed speeds) ... In otherwords, you be better off saving your money and build a NEW system i.e. Dual/Quad Intel Core2 or AMD Phenom II series system.
