What happened with this cool forum ?

Ohhh man, sad sad ... tsk tsk....

Sander, out of all your repliers to your last column... which was over 4 months ago... ( pretty good ratio, 3 articles a year )

only McFly and maybe someone else is a senior member of this forum. I guess i count as one of the top posters now... haha.

swoopo ads, random number generator for the anonymous users currently...

This place used to be badass, i remember when i joined, every day or other day there was an article on hardware reviews.. news.. all sort of cool stuff... until ... well, someone slipped up and got no more hardware or anything worthwhile to write about.

The last really fun thing that happened was when Super and I kept up the fun amd vs intel battles... But that died off too, got boring. And with that I think this died, and slowly is killed even more every time an even more refreshing article/column is written and i get its wonderful email header that just brings sadness to what once were happy memories.

I have to agree actually. Just in general, conversation is down on all the forums I read. My WoW guild has screeched to a halt, metal-realm is boring as crap now, and HWA is... stagnant. The massive thought provoking (a 900+ post threat about religion?), benchmarking, tweaking, etc threads have all but disappeared. Guess life moves on /shrug

About 3 & 8 months for me, around when I started high school. It's definitely been a while. Feels stale around here, sadly. Though it's the only forum I now visit on a regular basis due to facebook.

dare i say it went down when the likes of pcgeek were banned? i mean there was always controversy...wasn't that fun?

That was the only fun there was on this forum after someone screwed up and got no more info on new hardware.

Telling people why or how they were wrong and fanboying was the only thing keeping this forum alive. But after i, super, and other slowly faded away, so did the soul of this forum.

I agree to a certain extent....but my 2 cents is that alot of the peeps on here do not actually try to help genuine peeps problems. Alot of the time on here a person would try to help and then others would wait to say how the helpers suggestion was totally crap and not helping at all.

But yes, the articles have fallen by the way side and the only hardware reviews done now are by the actual members who BUY new hardware and then share it with us (Mothow for example and his i7 and case etc) and TBH thats the best review from peeps who actually use it.

Alot of people on here take themselves SO SERIOUS its not even funny. Yes, I know I cannot be accused of that but I try to have a laugh and both at others and MYSELF, but peeps are hell bent on being a fookin KNOW IT ALL......still its a great forum and I have been a member here since I got my first laptop with a wirelss card and was using the wireless hotspot on the TITANIC before she hit the BIG SNOWMAN!!!!!

Hope this forums stays afloat for a good while yet!

Get over yourself already...you and Super and all the other people whos**t your fanboy nonsense all over the boards were a big part of the reason so many people left.

In fairness to SUPER who is/was the biggest fanboy I have ever seen he was not agressive about it and did backup his claims with alot of links etc. and did admit defeat every now and again......

There is nothing wrong with the odd flame war once its not personal...and alot of stuff on here can get personal. And I have been involved in two personal clashes....in 4.2 yrs so I aint Charlie Bronson just yet!!!!

Well I couldn't post because I was banned, lol. I did always read all the new posts and such, to me everything is the same, people just get older.

Archangel, however, does not get older. He goes backwards.

Not to mention he raced me with his Jetta and I beat his sorry arse with my Ford Focus. ;)

I've been a member here for nearly 6 years. I'm probably one of the oldest members
to frequent this forum. I used this forum when I started off with my PC back in 2002.
I found this forum in early 2004, and became a member later that year.
The help that's been offered since I started and up til now has always been the same,
and there are a lot of user on here - who I now class as friends - who will bend over
backwards to help out. But, it's a pain when you see the same questions being asked
over and over and over again, when the person just has to use the HWA search engine
to browse for the problems & answers first. I think most of the members on here would
agree to that.

I do think a lot of folks on here don't get my wit at best of times, and it's over their
heads, so that kinda makes me laugh when I've posted something that's aimed to
tickle the bellies of some only to be missed, and about 6 or 7 posts later someone
clicks lol. I've seen it happen many a time. Or maybe I just have a sh-it wit that only I
get - Plug no comments....

IMHO there are forums that are really helpful, and there's forums that just don't give
a f**king monkeys what your problem is. And this forum is neither worse nor bad
than the rest.

I don't rely on HWA for reviews. I have the other users on here who will boast how
amazing their hardware is, or hows**t their latest purchase is and how they want
to punt it off. If there's a new product out, and someone on here buys it, we'll soon
get to hear how how good, bad or flawed it is.

Archangel, it's what you make it. I come to this forum not just for advice or to give any
knowledge that might be of use to someone, but to also have a laugh at some of the
comments that are said on here & with the fellow members. There is some good banter.

At this moment in time... for reviews... well, the i7's out. Been & done. There's no
new GPU's that are revolutionising the industry, nor is there any new sound cards,
or any much newer MoBo's. Everything's kinda eased or halted during this ecomomic
slump since no one's got or willing to spend money.

On a final note, this forum is a general tech forum. It's not a dedicated Overclocker forum,
or anything like that. So I'm assuming that the forums you've been going to have been
something like this, or if it's a forum like HWA then it'll be pretty much that same as this
one. Stop your whinging and contribute to make it what you want it to be!!! Cos I've not
seen you around here in a long time!

well, i agree. the excitement is not here. most of us get there information elsewhere and then maybe come here to discuss it further here or to keep the other members updated.
i contribute this most to the lack of support of input on this forum thou. although i also like the "clean-slate" look and feel of the forum, the lack of being able to upload picture and embed links is a hugh draw back for me.
i mean how can a user/ member submit a good review of an item or write up a decent report or show of a build log without pictures and i for sure would like to include links in mine without having to use tinyurl just to shorten it.

on the other hand it is also some of the members attitude here to contributes to that atmosphere.
i initially came here to seek help, advise and get some opinions on some ideas i had.
i fear if i were to do that today that i probably would just get some quick thoughtout snappy answer that is suppose to satidfy me with hardly any background information, nor discussion and probably some random comment about where i should have looked first or what i should have done.
reallity thou is, vast majority of things that one can ask have already been answered, if not here then on another forum. that doesn't mean thou that that person does not deserve the respect, passion and patients to get their question answered.
all to often i see people here way advanced in attack mode about something very insegnificant.

You can either be part of the problem or be part of the solution.

very true indeed and it often is not hard to tell the who-is-who.
nevertheless, i was and am still hoping that we could do a better job here or maybe that should be the key element that sets us apart from the rest.
thats why i joined initially and thats why i spend less time here, less then i would like to do.

You can either be part of the problem or be part of the solution.

Yes, I remember that as well. I first started reading HWA in late 2003, as I recall I was looking for info on setting up my first software RAID 0 array. I found exactly what I was looking for and got my array running in no time.

I've made quite a few friends here (some of who don't even read/post at HWA anymore, but I still see via Xfire), and I'm not ready to give up on HWA yet.

That's a big reason why I've been making Greasemonkey scripts for HWA and sharing them with everybody (although they only get a handful of downloads). The problem with Greasemonkey is that you only see the modifications if you have the scripts installed, which does nothing to attract new users.

I think Sander and Vitaliy should consider a major overhaul of the site, from the articles down the basic design and layout of the site. I'd be more than willing to contribute whatever I could design- or code-wise, for the greater good of the site.

HWA is the only forum I check every day, and I plan on keeping it that way. :) But it would be hard to do if users start defecting over to other forums. :|
