"Michael Jackson has been rushed to the hospital, a fire department official told the Los Angeles Times. Capt. Steve Ruda said Thursday that Jackson was not breathing when Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics responded to a call at his Los Angeles home about 12:30 p.m. The paramedics performed CPR and took him to UCLA Medical Center, Ruda told the newspaper... "

Hours later he died, pity!

Michael was a troubled, though highly talented individual.
His entertainment will be missed, but I think that he was an un-happy person throughout most of his life.
IT is my hope that his catolog of achievements will be remembered, and that those that he truely offended will get some solace out of his premature death, but those that falsely accused him should suffer the rest of thier lives.

Serious?

Thriller and Bad were both immensely powerful and influential R&B pop-infusion albums that added significant brick and mortar to the groundwork of good R&B and pop today. There's no question that his contribution to music will be remembered even decades from now.

That's not even mentioning his colossal work toward breaking down cultural double standards surrounding racial separation - both overt and subtle.

Just because he doesn't lay within the realm of rock and metal, doesn't mean his impact is any less.

Edit: Wording.

Do you honestly believe Eddie Van Halen and Paul McCartney would have collaborated with Michael Jackson on Thriller if he didn't have anything far beyond a modicum of talent? The single album, while not as tightly constructed as Off The Wall, is a fine balance of R&B, pop, hard rock and funk, varying moods of soft ballads to tough and industrial beats.

You can't really tell me Michael Jackson was a talentless hack. You can hate him and his music, but at least show why you think he's talentless... because grudging respect is a farcry from the vibes I'm getting here.

Not knowing what came before is a sure way of not knowing what can come about.
MJ has an imprint on, not only music, but popular media in general stretching across four decades so far!
Even "American Dad" played on him, just in the last couple of years, even though most of the viewers were too young to actually understand the reference!
I am not a FAN, but have heard, and not totally rejected what he has done over a period of over 40 years!

If you don't know what a 45, LP, cassette tape, 8-track are....then please, please shut the frak up until you do your research!

You also need to look up David Bowie, Alice Cooper, Elton John, Ozzy Osbourne, Jim Morrison, et. al.
They are all wierd, twisted persons that have helped drive the music industry, to include Metal, Speed, Pop, and just about anything else. The only one that I can think of that drove the music that isn't as twisted as the others would mayhap be Carlos Santana..... Payton help me out here...

I'm still shocked as F*$# I can't believe he died. RIP King of Pop he is a legend and will truly be missed. What's more tragic was the fact that he had planned his last concert tours and I was planning on attending one

I think he became a parody of himself in the last 10 or 15 years, and his attitude toward young boys was concerning, to put it mildly.

However, "Billie Jean" to this day will rock a dance floor like nothing else. The darkness of "Beat It" is pretty much what introduced my seven year old self to rock and metal - that unbelievably tense synth bell followed up by that perfect riff. I had visions of all the kids on my bus singing it all the way home (even though I didn't know the words - hey, I was a weird kid). And the end of "Wanna Be Startin Somethin" is pure, unadulterated sunshine. "Mama say mama saw ma ma koo saw, mama say mama saw ma ma koosaw" etc - when else have you heard such absolute joy put down on tape? Light made sound?

You don't have to have liked him, but to discount him is, frankly, ignorant.

I never listened or liked that kind of music at all. I understand he was a sort of 'icon' but I don't really think his death is a huge deal. Now if John Petrucci died, I would probably go into depression.
