Please guys, stay on topic. Does this forum not have any administrators or moderators. It is against netiquette to go off on tangents to topics like this. And BTW, can somebody provide a link to the forum rules page for the forum, as welll as how to use the user control panel.

BTW: My motherboard question still stands

Regards,
mintsmike

Well TBH mate if you are going to use BIG words like "netiquette" and "tangents" to confuse us....I would have taught you would have had the IQ to look at hardware reviews online (like we all do) to get the information that you require to free you from this obvious "huge" dilemma you are losing sleep over.....

I helped you as much as I could given the circumstances (on my lunch hour I might add) what do you want, every member on here to suggest a mobo and then you pick one and never post back to thank us.......like sooooo many peeps that register to get a quick fix.

I mean its not rocket science mate now is it......?

You...SIR are so off my christmas list. :X

Well peeps, i would have stayed with you after my 'quick-fix' and i am usually a freindly member on many other fourms. I only stay with communities that are nice to me.

Thank you for taking the time out of your lunch hour to help me

If that is all, then i will be gone,
Goodbye,
mintsmike

OK, i appologize.

I now have used google (as you said) and came up with the following solution:

MoBo: Asus P6T
CPU: Intel Core i7 920

Now i was just scanning the thread and saw that mothow has that build. Can your please tell me how the hardware works for you (Pros, Cons.. etc) and also how it works with windows 7 (Aero, Performance rating, etc.).

Thanks in advance,
mintsmike

Only real draw back is heat. You need good cooling for these i7's.But other that its fine i love mine.Micheal what are u gonna be using this system for mainly? If its gaming a good 775 mobo and an e8600 or Q9650 will do nicely also

+1

But this is only gaming, and you would need high end components also clocked very well to match the i7 platform...however most peeps do this and have these items in the normal course of events.

Michael,
You've found the sweet spot for this forum. We both love and disrespect those that we love.
Asus is a good product, but the P6T isn't the best. Same with the CPU.
I'm still having problems with the tempuratures with the i7 920.
My MB BIOS is saying that everything is OK, but my CPU-Z and CoreTemp are saying that the tempuratures are way too high. I've not gotten any good feedback on the monitoring differentials.
Eight threads, with BOINC running on all processors gives me a BIOS rating at 54 Degrees C, while I'm seeing Coretemp giving 90 degree spikes.
System seems to be stable even at the 90-100 degree spikes however.

What is wrong with your board mate...every review I have read gives that Asus board a Super Review? Also why are the i7's running so hot when they are made on a lower nm then the rest of the cpu's?

Not sure. When I first installed the board I was running 70C with Thermaltake thermal compound, but when I switched to Artic Silver (I had to re-buy as I can't find my original tube), temps went down into the 50C range.
I also increased the amount of compound used, but mayhap not enough. I came up in the less is better school, but a consistant coating across the entire face of the i7 seems to be necessary.
But even at the new higher coverage using AS5 the CoreTemp app is still spiking above 90C with 4 threads of BOINC running. Not sure what is going on, BIOS still shows sub 60C temps on the LCD Poster.
