Okay, so I have a Sony TRV18-E camcorder that is not compatible with Vista 64 (Good old Sony) I have alot of footage on this that I need to transfer to my PC to burn to a DVD. Assuming the driver works for XP (The rig I made for my 4yr old is XP) what is the best programme to use to get it from file to DVD....Any ideas guys?

I use movie maker on xp to transfer footage from camcorders to computers, but if i remember correctly you cannot burn onto a dvd using movie maker. possibly to do with the encoding process i cant remember why exactly.

once i edit it totally with movie maker adding titles etc, i save it as a dv-avi, so it is uncompressed and the same quality as the original recording. then you need to use some dvd authoring software to take the file and either add menus etc, or simply just burn as is onto a dvd.

i will say one thing, the uncompressed dv-avi will be a huge file! im assuming its standard def? because i believe movie maker in xp will not handle hd.

Nero vision, which is part of nero 8/9 is what i use.

Win movie maker is simpler if your looking for a simple transfer. if you are looking for a little more user control, then the nero vision works great. (compression of video, etc)
