so who here besides me is waiting for lynnfield to come out?
and who, who has already a bloomfield will get a lynnfield as well .. or skip it and if so why?

i am really impatient about the release of lynnfield. it's supposed to happen in sept.
i think this will be a very promising platform as well as the new P55/ P57 motherboards.

well... if you are not interested yet .. maybe have a read
http://www.anandtech.com/cpuchipsets/showdoc.aspx?i=3570&p=2

lynnfield is very promising. early benchmarks show it to able to hold water with the i7 920.
not only that but the P55 chipset which it will run on has a direct connect for two pci-e slots
no dmi or qpi .. goes right into the chip. i am very curious how this will work out. it could potentially make for much better gpu -> cpu -> gpu performance
...unless intel is doing something screwy with it that is.
also, power consumption will be significantly lower for the board and the processor as there is no NB anymore and the lynnfield's are spec'd at 95w tdp

I have my eye on the "NEXT GENERATION" cpu's I have to say. But I am a shrewd operator.....I will play the old waiting game and see whats best for us PRO GAMERS.

PnP, i think this platform will be very well for pro games and or any gamer.
not only because of the price range but as i already mentioned the pci-e lane configuration.
20 - 24 lanes will go directly into the cpu, no middle man. over at XS a guy already benched the beta boards from asus and there is no sign of the pci-e lanes holding back, quiet the contrary. of course at a later point in time this will be more refined but this absolutely looks like a winner to me.

i was soooooo tempted and still am to get the i7 920 at microcenter for $200 bucks but i think i will wait for this.
there will be a 2.66ghz, 2.8ghz and 2.93ghz version of the i5. the 2.8 version will do hyperthreading as well and go for the current list price of the i7 920

Bot,

As far as I know the i7 platform has a direct link from the PCI-e to the CPU aswell, and it aint all that....compared to whats out there.

I got a GTX295 upgraded from a fine 8800GTX and yes its alot faster but its not all that. I think I should have went with a single 285 OC.....but it will stand me for a good while and the only reason I did get it was I got good moneyt for my old 8800GTX.

You really have to be so carefull with all the propaganda put out by these tech companies....I mean as Tam the Bam keeps saying everytime a new nVidia driver is out it promises "Mad gains" you think they were selling the drivers FFS!

No disrespect to anyone who has one but if I upgraded from what I have now to a i7 platform with the little difference there is....I be well p**sED!

Where as if you have a low end PC and wanted a very good upgrade the time to buy is when the i5's launch and the prices of the i7's drop.

exactly my point and my route of thinging.

on the i7/x58 platform thou the pci-e lanes go through the x58 chipset via qpi bus which is not present in the i5/p55 platform. the chipset is moved on die. the third, if present, pci-e slot/ lanes are supplied by the pch or SB now.
this could potentially be an even better connection then the QPI.
it's actually my own thinking i haven't really read anything or seen any claims in regards to that. it could also very well back fire depending on how well intel is implementing this integration and the link. i could imagine that intel cripples it (for now at least) in order to keep the i7 and x58 as a seller
