Latest word from the MS:
http://windowsteamblog.com/blogs/windows7/archive/2009/07/13/u...7-rtm.aspx
We are close, but have not yet signed off on Windows 7. When we RTM you will most certainly hear it here. As we’ve said all along, we will RTM Windows 7 when it’s ready. As previously stated, we expect Windows 7 to RTM in the 2nd half of July.

They may just want to announce it themselves, so nobody really knows at this point. I've been following this like mad all day today. I've been to Russian and Chinese sites, and all over the boards and IRC. It's a madhouse out there, I tell ya.

Hopefully some big news will be given out tomorrow at the WPC09 conference. Steve Ballmer's keynote is set for 8:30AM Central time, live webcast at http://www.digitalwpc.com

Ah, I was thinking that was today for whatever reason. It's probably legit, MS /always/ releases s**t on Tuesdays.

WPC09 actually started today, but big Ballmer's keynote is tomorrow. I saw today's presentation, nothing too exciting.

Well, seeing as how discs are already being produced, and being installed onto upcoming OEM PC's, it would be hard for them to change it now! Unless of course they issue them through Windows Update ...

I decided to check out this new final ISO of Windows 7, and it seems it is Ultimate only which is not so good for me because the version I will get from my school is probably going to be Professional. So I may need to reinstall Professional when I get it, unless Ultimate can downgrade to Professional without reinstalling. I guess I'll find out come next month.

That's a good question I'll have to check that out, though I ran Vista x64 on my laptop and desktop for a while without ever coming across that problem so either all my drivers were signed or they changed it. Can't say about Windows 7 x64 though, as of now I only installed one driver and that was for my 8800GT, and Nvidia has WHQL drivers for Windows 7 final already. All my other drivers I didn't bother installing as my onboard sound, onboard LAN, and everything else seem to work just fine with the generic Windows 7 drivers that were installed during setup.

I know that you already know about this now, but for anybody else wondering: you can delete ei.cfg from the install disc to enable the option to choose which edition you install.

Of course. It only affects the installer's operation.

There's some info from My Digital Life here:
http://www.mydigitallife.info/2009/07/23/how-to-select-any-edi...ia-or-iso/

You can change which one installs by default, or just delete it to get the prompt during install.
