Hi,

I am using RHEL5. I have experienced certain problems with the yum server. I just want to know how to configure yum server directly to internet. i just used the yum server as below

/etc/yum.repos.d.....

[Server]
name=Server
baseurl=file:///dvd/rhel5/Server/
enabled=1
[VT]
name=Virtualization
baseurl=file:///dvd/rhel5/VT/
enabled=1
[Cluster]
name=Cluster
baseurl=file:///dvd/rhel5/Cluster/
enabled=1
[ClusterStorage]
name=Cluster Storage
baseurl=file:///dvd/rhel5/ClusterStorage/
enabled=1

But i don't like that. When i connect the PC directly to internet and just type

example:-
yum install vlc*
yum install realplayer*

it resolves all repository and install automatically. So i want that type configuration. So please help me to configure the yum server.

Regards,

Shahid khan

>> Re: configuring the yum server
Is this genuine RedHat Enterprise Linux or something like CentOS?

You can install:
centos-release-*
from
http://mirrors.unbornmedia.com/centos/5.3/os/i386/CentOS/ (32bit)
or
http://mirrors.unbornmedia.com/centos/5.3/os/x86_64/CentOS/ (64bit)

This will give you yum access to CentOS RPMs which are compatible with RHEL5.

Also, repositories like rpmforge (http://dag.wieers.com/rpm/FAQ.php#B) are quite helpful.
