... How do I force my resolution in SafeMode? Because it always boots in 600x800
but I can't change the resolution to 1024?? This's what p**ses my off about Vista and
Nvid drivers.

Is there a way I can force without Nvid Desktop or Personal Settings?
Whatever I do, the resolution of 1024, will not work.

Also whilst on the subject, I have ALWAYS had to install new Nvid drivers from
safe mode!! WTF!! I uninstall from desktop, clean with Driver Cleaner & also CCleaner,
reboot only to have a black screen, so I always have to install from safe mode.
Any ideas why this's happening??

Tam...

Not sure if this will do the trick permanently but you could give this a go.

http://www.mydigitallife.info/2008/06/22/how-to-change-screen-...f-windows/

Not sure what the issue is with having to install in safe mode. It's one of those where I'd suggest a reformat but that may or may not be worth the hassle.

I'll give it a try. Thanks.
As for the installation of Vid Drivers, this's has always been the case since I've had
Vista from day one. No format required, because it will do the same again.

Tam, just being picky mate but within the above scenario, you have not mentioned actually installing the new driver/s? Are you uninstalling, cleaning and rebooting? If so, the system may not know what driver to use? Apologies if you are installing before reboot but you didn't state this ya great galoooooot! :D

Ah lol, here's my scenario.....

Just checked Nvid driver base, new drivers released.
D/L and save to desktop.
Uninstall old drivers from desktop & clean system with Driver Cleaner & CCleaner.

REBOOT (I always do a reboot after cleaning registry and I also prefer to reboot
before installation of new driver).

At this stage, I should be able to boot back to desktop, and being installation of
my new driver, but as boot's complete, the screen is black. No desktop to be seen.
I know it's there, I can hear the welcome music. So now I'd have to:

Boot to safemode where I can see the desktop, and from there I can begin installation
of the new drivers.

The thing is, I've always had this problem since I bought vista back in 2007.
However, I can uninstall Vid drivers from desktop, clean & install new drivers
all in one go without reboot, and experience no problems, but my obsessive compulsive
disorder gets the better of me lol.

I've never experienced any problems like this with XP bah!

Yeah, that is mad wired Tam, I never ever had that Tam ever. With any nvidia card, so I dont think its the drivers. So after you you un-install and driver clean (exactly what I do) you get a BLACK SCREEN!! hmmm.

Dont suppose you have a spare video card...just for giggles. Take out and re sit the card Tam, and make sure that in the new drivers you take it off POWER MANAGEMENT MODE..to max performance.

No I don't get the black screen until I've done a reboot. The screen goes to 600x800
and as it would do (if not rebooted). It's only when I do a reboot, I get the black screen.
Power management's always in max performance. Also the card's been reseated many
times since very first install of windows. Format last done was march.

That's a kerfuffle. When I get new drivers I download them, run them immediately then restart when it tells me to.

Works every time!

I don't like to use the Nvid uninstaller. I feel that it doesn't do the job properly.
Like I said, my OCD always gets the better of me lol

Tam... that's weird.... as you mentioned about getting Visat back in '07... it may be one of the quirks that you ran across with early adopters...

On my system, I have had to reload the ATI drivers once and there were no issues as others here with their Nvidia's drivers. I uninstall ATI drivers via the MS install/uninstall utility, run CC Cleaner, delete ATI folders and then reboot to desktop using the MS default video drivers. Then I go to install the new ATI drivers...

You said this has always happened and even after you reload the OS... Could by your particular OS build or some quirky hardware (video card or mb).

Maybe this could be a good reason/excuse for you to do a upgrade. New mb, video, mem, cpu, etc... the whole ball of wax........... :)

So Tam, when you go to un install 1st....you clean using driver sweeper. You dont actually use control panel and click on the driver to remove. If so, man that is not a good way IMHO.....I do this then before I reboot I use Driver Sweeper. Then reboot use it again (very rarely find anything) then I run CC cleaner (For the registry) only after all that do I install my driver. Then I restart with new driver!!!

If I picked you up wrong soz....but you gotta use the nvidia un install then clean up after it....well I do and it never back fired any driver.

I uninstall via control panel (uninstall program) then use driver cleaner, then Ccleaner.
Reboot then install new drivers. as above in my other post

This is weird. An the amount of times a new nvidia driver comes out I bet your head in minced, BTW Tam was this always the case or only in the last while. I would try resitting the card, you never know.

But I am searching the web to see if I can find ANYTHING.

For the black screen.... it's always been the case... with Vista. I'll have to try my Win7
and see what happens. I'll report back about it. As for the GPU. It's been completely
removed and reseated on several occasions. The black screen's happened before and
after. The card is fine. No artifacts, etc.

I'm bored and looking at old threads. The display might go black at higher resolution because the refresh rate is wrong.

Maybe! Just maybe you need to set the init display in the bios to PCI-EX?

Try changing the settings.
