My 295 is hot, and I mean hot, burning to the touch

my computer crashed for no apparent reason and I couldnt turn it back on, opening up the case the heat hit me like a wall, touching the components the heatsink for the RAM and Processor were mildly hot, as I expected but the 295 burnt my finger tip.

I put a domestic fan at the side of the open case to cool it down and once it did the computer started without a hitch I have left the case open with fan next to it, the computer has been running for around 7 mins and the card is hot once again, system monitor says 60'c

my case is a coolermaster stacker, I havent used any extra fans so far, so its just the 2 120mm fans, one covering the back panel and one for the hard drives. The case has slots for another 5.

Is air cooling the way to go here, or should I start looking at liquid cooling?

Give me a day or 2 and I will post a ling to a pic of the inside of my case.

I would have already had liquid cooling with a system like that TBH. If I were you I would try an air solution by adding fans to those extra available spaces. It also depends on your living environment, is it hot as hell where you live?

If you believe that overheating is the issue than obviously better cooling is going to be the best solution.

>> Re: Burning up
Water Cooling is a tad over the top...it would not cool the system much more then a system setup correctly....and the exspense would be massive. A Waterblock for a GTX is silly money.

What case have you got mate...and d/l the nvidia monitoring tool to see how hot your GTX really is....they are by default meant to run hot but not burning tips off fingers.

For a start download RIVATUNER just to increase the GTX fan....by default it only runs at 40% capacity so I set mine to run at 65% by default and it kicks in as soon as windows loads.

I am telling you now, that with a small amount of money spent. You can have that rig flying with minimal heat. My rig is running very cool, my CPU runs max late 40's very early 50's gaming for hours and middle 30's idle. My GPU is warm at best...when gaming for hours...and I mean hours!

I would happily go for liquid, but I have no Idea how to do it.

Money really isnt an issue, been looking at a site I use regular and Ive established that I need a GPU block and a CPU block, a pump, a reservoir, a radiator and fluid?

is that right?

what else would I need.

could there be something wrong with my card?

It crashed again, side is off the case. I removed the card from the computer and allowed it to cool, Ive placed it back in my machine and its been running for around 5 mins GPU1 temp is at 61 degrees, its hot to the touch... shouldnt heat like that, should it?

60 is not hot, so it may be recording the temp wrong. Try turning up the GPU fan and see if that helps. Don't go for liquid cooling just yet, rich bastard :D

Im not rich, just not prepared to see my puter go bang.

I use riva tuner already, have the fan set to 60%

maybe nvidia system monitor isnt working well, it stated that gpu1 is at 66'c and gpu2 is at 64'c

but Ive got the case open, and it is searing hot to the touch. Something ive noticed recently (which I thought may be a vista problem) was that my computer seems to start up in a lower resolution then I use 1024x768 instead of 1280x1024

I hope the card isn't dying somehow, that would be awful. When the computer turns off does the power go off or does it stay on and your monitor goes black and the LED blinks?

Ive only had the card since feb, if it dies, EVGA will be having an email.

When I turn the computer off it seems to shut down fine, however I always turn it off at the socket moments later, I will check to see if it does anything odd tonight

Jon if you ever want assistance with Watercooling, I'm here to help.
I have a dual loop (one for CPU & one for GPU).

What's the comparison for heat to the touch?

The 295 cooler could just be clogged with dust? Although the fan would be going full pelt if it was. Gah.

I have an 8800GT. It was running close to 90c at full load I bought an ARCTIC COOLING ACCELERO S1 Rev 2 air cooler. I'm running it without the optional fan setup for it. The other day the ambient in my room was over 32c/90F and the card was running at 50c. Cooler Master case with stock 120mm intake exhaust fans. I think yours uses the S2 model. Best $26US I've spent in a while. Bit of a PITA to install and a bit large but it does work great!

Adjust the fan speed manually with Evga's Precision or RivaTuner, it could be that the fans are not kicking in when the temp gets very hot. Also 60c is fine for that card. Heck! my 8800gt is running at 73c right now and I'm not even gaming lol! I do have it overclocked but I live in Puerto Rico and it's summer!

Some people might say that's too hot but I'm an extremist... In fact If I have sometime tomorrow I'm going to v-mod this mobo and hit 4ghz with my Q6600, that means close to 80c temps!! I have balls!

OK, weve established that the card is designed to run hot. Maybe there's another reason for the sudden instability in my system.

Ive recently added a further 2gig of ram to my system, so I have 2x2gb and 2x1gb chips from the same manufacturer, they are all 1066 chips.

My processor is overclocked to 3.4 and the system voltage Im using is 1.4.

2 120mm case fans, CPU fan, corsair RAM fans, 500gb HD, dvdrom drive, floppy.
GTX 295 and the sound card.

Am I pushing my 700w Tagan PSU to hard?

Well now that you mention the RAM that could very well be making your rig crash. I would take out the 2x1GB and leave the 2x2GB in. Go into the BIOS and make sure its not set to TERMINATE at a givin temp.

Did you do what they said and set the fan to 100% duty? 700W should be plenty to run that setup. The RAM is same manufacturer but is it same model? Makes a difference. When it crashes can you boot right back up? If so it probably isn't a heat issue causing the crash. But if the card is overheating you should start seeing artifacts before it crashes. I thought these new cards ran cooler?
