I'm currently trying to build a setup that can capture and stream live full HD footage through the internet. I understand tha bandwidth and streaming servers for transmission/reception of such large images is a major concern, but i'm more interested in the hardware and peripherals right now. I'd certainly appreciate any help regarding:

1) Models and brands of camera / camcorder or similar that can connect via firewire to the PC and can natively work, as to say, as "webcams" (I mean, no third party software needed to force their use as "webcams");

2) Which is the fastest model of firewire connection? Is it available in any MOBOs with LGA 775 or AM2 socket?

3) Is this fastest firewire connection adequate to transmit full HD images with at least 40 fps?

4) Can any cameras use this fastest firewire connection?

Thx in advance

hmm, not exactly my nitch but a few questions of top.
1. why firewire?
2. does it have to be firewire or is there room for any other option?
3. HD photography or video or both.
4. what program will you use where you would use the camera as a webcam?
5. digital or analog?

You can either be part of the problem or be part of the solution.

1. why firewire?

I chose firewire because I definetly do not want to go with USB. It has to do with the way information is handled by USB (firewire streams better than USB). However, e-SATA or PCI express might also be even better.

3. HD photography or video or both.
I'm mostly interested in video. Also if you can transmit video, photography is a piece of cake afterwards.

4. what program will you use where you would use the camera as a webcam?
The OS would preferrably be Linux, but could be Windows too. However, I want to collect raw data from the camera/camcorder, only with the compression the camera itself does. I don't want any other softwares "managing" the image for me. Therefore, as far as I may wish, no software other than the OS whatsoever.

5. digital or analog?
Digital.

What do you think of the Intensity and above models?
I think it may be a partial solution for the question I originally posted, but I have read some reviews that the capture software that comes with it is pretty lame.

sovietdoc, how about realtime streaming directly from the camera's HDMI out? Found anything like that?

This camcoder streams live via HDMI out. It only does 720p (1080i) and not the full 1080p though.

I know that you are looking to stream "live full HD" but by full HD you mean 1920x1080 1080p ?

And are you looking into home solutions or professional production streaming?

More pro choices would be a steamZ broacast server

with a pro videocamera hooked up into it.

Thx for the big tips, sovietdoc. I'll probably build and test a setup in the next 2-4 months. I would want non-pro options, since they cost much less, but in the end I think pro options will fare so much better that the cost will be more than worth it.
Still, any more suggestions are more than appreciated!
