Hey guys, so I'm thinking about getting a new monitor before December. I'm a little unsure on what to get, 16:10 or 16:9? I have seen a rise in 16:9 monitors recently, they seem to be more popular than 16:10 now. Because games are important to me so I have to ask, do most games now support 16:9 resolutions now? AFAIK 16:10 is still the standard for games.

I'm leaning toward 16:10 at the moment, because I just don't see any real advantages with 16:9, besides the fact you can watch a few movies without the black bars (since a lot of movies are in 2:1 anyway), plus I don't even mind the black bars at all. With 16:10 you have about 120 more pixels worth of vertical space as well (1200 vs 1080). Let me know what you think guys.

Oh btw right now I have Samsung 20" that's 16:10.

I personally like the 16:10 monitors better because of the extra desktop space. The LCD manufacturers are trying to phase them out though... the reason is that when they cut the glass for the monitors there is less waste if they are 16:9 so it makes them a little cheaper when they are producing them in large numbers.

If you can find one that is the size you're looking for I'd grab a 16:10 while you still can.

16:9 is pretty much standard for "HD" resolutions. I would go for 16:10 because they can display larger resolutions as well as display the HD resolutions (and make them look better IMO).

I would also prefer the 16:10...if you are using a 24" TFT then the standard view should be 16:10.

Its not a deal breaker but I would deffo go for the "BIGGER PICTURE" (see what I did there)

COMPUTERS ARE NOT JUST MY LIFE...THEY ARE MUCH MORE IMPORTANT THEN THAT.
