Guys, to all the OverClockers out there, or even the folks who have a system
at stock
, can you please post CPU Temps during or straight after a gaming session
so I can see the peak temps for comparison.

I run CoreTemp during my game purely as a monitor. I want to see how stressed
my Overclocked system is during intensive gaming sessions. My OC is the same
since July2007 and is in my profile, but as a quick measure:

CPU 3.60GHz
RAM 1600Mhz

No need for GPU, as my main concern is CPU temps.

I suppose it also depends on what game you are playing and how many cores it uses.
If it's a single core, then Core0 will be the highets temp, and if it's Dual Core game,
then Core1 included, but nonetheless please post all core temps.

So what I do, is run CoreTemp before launching any game. And when I terminate the
game I am playing, and it goes back to Desktop, I see my Temps:

My Temps immediately after a gaming session (no matter how long I've played) are:

Q6600 Quad Core (During Game/Immediately after)

Core 0= 60c
Core 1= 59c
Core 2= 49c
Core 3= 48c

FTR, my idle temps once cooled after the gaming session roughly 5mins..

are

Core 0=41
Core 1=39
Core 2=37
Core 3=39

No need for idle temps, but I thought I'd just post them anyways.

If you don't want to participate, that's fair enough. But I'm just keen to see what
you other guys peak temps are right after gaming.

Thanks

Tam...

Edit: This's not like a Prime95, My OC's been Primed long long ago. I'm just keen
for info on gaming temps. It's nothing to do with stress testing or anything like that.
;)

CPU = 2.7GHz (stock 2.4GHz)

Temp during gaming = anywhere between 59c - 64c

CPU - Q6600 @ 3.5ghz - no volt changes at all. OCZ Vendetta 2 heatsink.

The highest I've ever seen my CPU hit is 53c. It's about 34c idle. 2 minutes after gaming it will drop from about 52c to 40c then 34c again.

Do it tonite for ya Tam, To get the best idea you should NOT QUIT the game....just CTRL ALT DEL and look while game is running.

But I will tell ya laterz on my Quad.

BTW, What is the best way to take a snapshot of the desktop to post up for ya....

Yea I do the CTRL+ALT+DEL also.
I use Snagit to take snaps, but you can use the Prt Screen and use Paint in Accessories
to get the same. I used that once, I think when you do the Prt Screen, open PAINT, and
then immediately select PASTE if i remember correctly......

>> Re: OverClocking Temps During Gaming....
just downloaded core temp... i'll get you my results on my Q9550 @ 2.83ghz for ya....

[edit to add]

installed Core Temp v 0.99.5

idle = 33~35C on all 4 cores

moved and displayed Core Temp on my second monitor.

fired up HALO. Gamed for just over an hour... during gaming..... one of the core would go up to 40C load... then when the cooler kicks in (TECs turn on), the temp would drop to 35C at load.

I'll have to try this for BF2 to see what I get.

By the way...... I have a Coolit Freezone and the controller module is set at 50%. In the next couple of weeks, I will be modding my Freezone by changing out the original pump to a pump/reservoir combo and a Danger Den cooling block. I have all the parts ready... but need to plan out my modding strategy....

[edit to add]

ok.... tried out BF2

apparently BF2 uses 2 cores.... two cores went from 33~35C idle to 38~40C load while gaming. Then once again, my Freezone kicked in and the temps went down to 35C while gaming...

remember, I can watch Core Temp on my second monitor while gaming... :)

Michael C,

What case do you have?

Coz if we go buy the other thread that you do not buy good oversized cases with good airflow...I am assuming you have a $60 dollar case.....?

So you are running a Q6600 (which is the hottest of all Quads) overclocked to 3.5Ghz so its pumping out some heat....with an Ati card thats hot by default, with an average HSF and you are getting better cooling then the WATERCOOLING KITS posted above!!!!!!!!

Interested to know how you done this......

Good point. I'd like to see a CPUZ pic with the OC'd settings,
as well as a CoreTemp pic of the heat of the OC.

hey Plug,

Who are you comparing Michael C to?

The only here that has the closest match in cpu would be TAM. Both Michael and TAM Q6600 are OC's to nearly identical freq (3.5~3.6ghz). Michael's cpu is HSF whereas TAM's is H2O cooled.

Michael says his get no hoter than 53C.

Tam's gets 59C......

Are you saying that Michael's got one heck of a HSF ? :/

or are you comparing it to mine?

35C at load is not bad, IMO (especially within the tight confines space of my desktop)........ for my Q9550.... :/

>> Re: OverClocking Temps During Gaming....
lol, nubs.

I've learned that frequency of the CPU means nothing when it comes to heat - more heat only occurs when you have to make changes to volts. In this sense, my CPU running at 3.5ghz is the same as it running at stock 2.4ghz - and the tempertures are evident of this.

This is why I don't run at 3.6ghz. To run at 3.6ghz I have to make volt changes that cause a lot of heat and it's just not worth it IMO.

Average HSF - LMAO. The Vendetta 2 beats out just about all heatsinks from what I've seen. My case actually has very good airflow and lots of fans. My PC is in the basement where the ambient temperture is very cool.

Hey Michael,

It is a given that when you increase voltage to the cpu that increase in heat is to follow....

but in your case, increase in just frequency will produce its own additional heat as well.... just not the same increase if you were to add cpu core voltage..

So if you were to take your OC and reduce it back to stock settings... and with your current environment.... I would imagine that your load temp would probably fall around 46C with that OCZ Vendetta 2 ?

Actually, leaving AUTO on for Volts (as an example) can increase the temps by more
than it should. Hence why setting your own volts to prevent this. I can figure why you
can get 3.50GHz on auto settings. But I'm going to try it. Also my our ambient temps
may vary greatly.

If there has been a heat increase it's been so insignificant that I didn't even notice. I believe part of the reason for me being able to run at 3.5ghz is the motherboard and possibly RAM. I recently built a PC for my buddy, Nic J, which has essentially has the parts as my PC. I was able to put his CPU at 3.5ghz the exact same way I did with mine and it's working flawlessly.

>> Re: OverClocking Temps During Gaming....

I just done a wee stress test on 3.50Ghz, and all settings on AUTO and left the RAM
at 4-4-4-12. Temps remained pretty much the same. Stress test was done with Everest.
Can't be arsed doing a Prime test. If it was that unstable, it would've crashed on the
Everest Stress test. My CPU's fromMarch 07, and Asus Commando MoBo from July 07,
RAM's from 1st Quart 07 and 2nd Quart 07. It's been OC'd since then. Temps at the
very start were significantly lower. I guess over time, stress will become an issue.
Computer's on 24/7, so initially, it's done well over these 2 years - which's surprised me
to be honest!!

Core1= 34c
Core2=27c
Core3=33c
Core4=25c

Gaming Temps:

Core1= 42
Core2=37
Core3=45

Michael,

What case is it you have?

In relation to the HSF I mistook it as a different one altogether (MY BAD) but in the Kanucks review it was coupled with a HIGH END fan....I would still prefer my own Tuniq 120 or better then both the new Ultra 120 Xtreme w/ Sflex fan. Also the review you posted is over a year old now better HSFs are out along with better Fans.
