My motherboard is dead, apparently from power surge, because the video card and psu are also gone. The Intel dual core processor is apparently not damaged. Myquestion is about a relacement for the old mobo. It was a
GIGABYTE GA-N650SLI-DS4L 775socket 1333Mhz DDR2 ATX.

My local shop suggests replacing it with a
ASUS INTEL P45/ICHR10 LGA775 1600FSB DDR2/DDR3 PCIEX16 GB-LAN ATX
My question is: Is this of equal quality and performance as my old board?
I'm not a gamer, but do lot's of photoshop work, and would rather overbuy a bit instead of trying to save on quality for my work.
Thanks for any help.

Is the Asus board suggested by my local shop a replacement of equal quality, performance as my dead mobo?

Unless ive overlooked it you dont acutaly specify which motherboard from asus you were offered..... Intel P45 covers a fair few boards as its a chipset not a modle number.

Having said that P45 is generaly seen on decent high end boards.

Shawn, here's the replacement info I placed on my first entry up there. If it isn't enough info, please tell me what specifically I need to provide.

ASUS INTEL P45/ICHR10 LGA775 1600FSB DDR2/DDR3 PCIEX16 GB-LAN ATX

I know many brands and models will do the job for me, but, as you know, there is satisfaction in researching the market, talking to forums, and using some knowledge in buying.

Thanks for the help

Im realy intrigued as to what G.G said =( why edit!!

As for what i'd need to know.....as I said the model number of the board....IE Asus P5Q or Asus P5Q Pro or Asus Maximus II ect you only specify its chipset being P45 and its brand being Asus. There's about 15 different boards that fall under that catagory.

But also like I said P45 is a decent enough chipset ill go out on a limb and say what ever they want to give you will suffice.

I honestly cannot find anything similar to that on the board. It's not even on the statement of my purchase, just the other numbers & letters I sent.

Thanks for the efforrt

lol @ G.G.

You can either be part of the problem or be part of the solution.
