dell s2409w $220 approx.
hanspree HF-257HPB and 23", $249 and 199
hp w2338h 249

i have been looking at these monitors lol every day at best buy. yes i'm a loser. the hanspree seems to have the best picture overall. the hp was on a different source. the hp looks nice but a little glossy and extra $$
i see mothow bought a 22" Dell of same line which he raved about. you guys got any additional input.

anyone running a desktop monitor 25" or bigger? is this crazey? 23" might be all i can handle so close to the screen.
The hanspree 25" is so inexpensive though.

i need a monitor with hdmi, hdcp and dvi. I will also use if for pc gaming.

If it were me I would go with the Hannspree. The Dell is also good though. Dump the HP.

Perhaps you should check into this monitor, I have it and it's great. Great price also.

Most peeps woulh agree that the 16:10 ration that a 24" TFT give with the res of 1920x1200 is optimal for games. I have to say the bigger the screen the better your games look, its one of the best upgrades you can buy becoz you see it 24/7 its not hidden in your case like RAM etc....

Your card would handle a 24" TFT but anything bigger you might have to tweak.

Rommel,

I would go with an monitor that has the glass panel like one from HP, Dell, and even Gateway. Reason is that because of the glass panel, it gives your colors a much greater depth and more vibrant colors than the mate panels. It also makes your text while browsing, word, and in general better detail and crisp..... Overall wise, the glass panel enhances the image that is presented to you.... especially with photos and movies. Also, games will just stand out more because the color and crispness will just increase and will put a whole new/renew life to them. The one down side to having a glass panel is the amount of light you have in your room and especially behind you... In medium to low lighting the glass is not a bother.... but if you have alot of light directly behind you.... the monitor can have reflection of those light source and that may be an irritant for you. I Have a monitor with the glass panel and in my situation, the monitor is a position that it is not affected by any light source.

Viewing monitors in a store settings like BB is the most inefficient way of comparing monitors... because the source is split so many times by the time it reaches the monitor that the actual signal is so deterriated compared from the source. The best way if you want to compare is to get the monitor you are interested in and having it hooked up directly to the source or to any computer there as a standalone. Then get the other monitors you are interested on that same source/computer.... BB wont have a problem with that if they know you are actually buying a monitor at that point and especially if you are getting one that is on the higher end of the dollar cost. Oh by the way.... you would need to give a wee bit way to the glass panel because of the environment it is presented in. With all the florescent lighting and stray lights all around.... the glass panel is shown in its worst... Believe me.... the glass panel is totally different once you get it home where you dont have the crazy lighting like you do at the stores.

Go with a 24" size.... it is the perfect size for your general viewing, movies, photos, and especially games.

By the way....... Dump the Hannspree..... it's cheap.... and the quality follows it. The cheapest is not always the route to take.

Definately give high consideration to monitors with the glass panel like from the vendors mentioned... Typically these type of monitors are in the mid-high to high catagory.

Definitely be cautious of relying on image quality in a store.

I have personally verified that some stores intentionally connect the more expensive displays to higher quality video signal sources, use longer or shorter cables, etc. I believe this is an intentional effort to make the more expensive display look better, even if when connected to the same video signal source, the cheaper display is vastly superior (I have swapped display connections in more than one store to verify this).

For digital signal displays, it wouldn't be too far a stretch to believe that stores capable of doing the above wouldn't mind using readily available video software to tweak video parameters to make more expensive displays look "brighter", "sharper", etc.

Getting additional advice from generally credible sources is smart.

No dead pixels at all. I tend not to completely trust user reviews. Pay attention to specs. This monitor is working out fantastically so far, even better than expected.

Rommel,

On my monitor.... I have the HP W2408H 24" 1920x1200.... I dont see bleeding at all at the edges. . I changed my desktop background to solid color... All black... well.... If I starred hard enough... there may be a teenie bleeding but that seems normal not abnormal.. it doesnt bother the displayed image at all by no means...its all disappeared when you have images sent to the edges..

Now one thing that could be happening is that the monitor you you have seen at the store have their brightness and contrast turned way up..... I know when I first got my monitor... at default settings... my retina was almost burnt out when I first turned on the monitor... OMG it was so bright... I had to turn down the brightness and contrast.. I'm running around 55 settings...

All I can say that my monitor is by far the best monitor that I have ever had compared some of the LCD I had in the past or current ones that I have now. The current LCD that are active in my house are two ACER, both 19"... one at 1440x900 and the other at 1680x1050 and a ViewSonic 20" 1680x1050... All with matte screens with the exception of my HP that has glass screen. The HP monitor, IMO, even better than a HP professional CRT 20" P960 monitor I once had...

But then again.... monitors is something that can be very subjective from person to person. What one see in a monitor is not necessary the same as the next...

Sorry... I dont have the bleeding that you are seeing from the monitors in the store.... :/
