Jon,

With consideration with what you have already.... there would be only two reason to go through with the upgrade

1. Just because you want to

2. It will be a new build

To go on the reason that it will be faster than what you already have where you are going to really tell a big difference...... Nawh... I wouldnt do it. Not for the price you are going to have to spend to change platform.

Today's games are mainly bound by the gpu and not by the cpu.

I'd wait till the new platform settle out a bit more and for it mature.... oh yeah... for the pricing to come down a bit more...

If you want a big improvement.... invest in a SSD of either the Intel X-25M or the OCZ Vertex line.

But then again, it is fun to upgrade .... go for it.. :P

Without even looking at the products the answer is no! Unless you want the bragging rights...which is not what it use to be. I would just wait and get a new DX11 card it will serve you better. Hell even a bigger TFT would be a more of an upgrade.

And on top of all that get it on FINANCE!!!!

The only way I would FINANCE would be if I have a REALLY old rig and wanted to upgrade.

Jon,

Take a good read at this website. It will give you a good reference on raid and the different types of raid that is available.

as with anything... there are pros and cons when you start to compare the differences between solid state vs mechanical hdd. But.... SSD is the way to go and mechanical will become the past as time progresses... It's just the matter of point in time you want to jump in with both feet into SSD arena.

You'd have to be insane to want to upgrade a PC like that! What's the point? Does it not run games good enough for you? LOL.

I would not invest in a SSD drive now either....yes it will be mainstream in 2 yrs time but its way too exspensive for the size you get.

A 7,200RPM Samsung is plenty for a gaming machine. Or for mad money get a 10,000RPM Velociraptor they are quicker then the Samsung especially in raod but they very dear.

go with the i7 860 instead of the i5 750.
the ram is blazing, almost double of what you currently have =)

i personally prefer the evga offerings for p55 line up. also, msi has some really nice boards for p55

You can either be part of the problem or be part of the solution.

If you have to finance it to be able to afford it then I would say that it is not worth buying especially considering the top notch system you already own.

Its funny you should say that.....

Though since starting this topic I talked to someone who told me that the problems Im experiencing may be DX10 related, and nothing to do with the machine itself.

Certainly, you would not really benefit from an upgrade to the i5 platform.

Even the DDR3 ram is really not going to give you much noticable performance increases, apart from in benchmarks.

Get a nicer screen maybe, or buy a high end DX11 card when they come out at the end of the month. Even upgrade to more ram, or as stated, splash out on some faster HDD's.

But I would not upgrade the CPU / Ram / Mobo you have to an i5 based system. Just not worth the effort or cost.
