Ok left my PC on as usual came home from work and my PC was off. I turn it back on it powers on for 1 second then it turns off and now it won't come on. I searched the net for answers and found that unplugging it might be the answer I did it the same thing happens then I flipped the red switch in the back and read some articles about that and now I think I really messed up my PC :( or maybe not if the PSU doesn't work but it was on for a brief period while flipped.. any suggestions or commentary I'm gonna buy a PSU Tester tommorrow.

I think my PSU is definitely faulted when I used the tester to test the molex connector and the SATA drive connectors it came up with no lights and no beep. I decided to test the whole unit by plugging in the 20/24 pin connector and when I did that one of the lights turned on and for some reason the rear fan turned on and went off after a second much like the front power switch after I plug it in for a second. Anyone think the Mobo is bad too or just the PSU?

Thanks
Chris

You really wont know what has "BLOWN" until you get your grandads old brown mack coat and a brown sherlock Holmes hat and investigate!

Chances are its just the PSu but could be the board aswell. I doubt the CPU got it in the PINS but you never know.........

Try to borrow a PSU and start the process of elimination.

COMPUTERS ARE NOT JUST MY LIFE...THEY ARE MUCH MORE IMPORTANT THEN THAT.
GO SELL CRAZY SOMEWHERE ELSE....WE'RE ALL STOCKED UP HERE!!!!!!

Luckily I have an Ultra brand power supply and can send it back for new one and I'll probably send it out tomorrow. I'll probably take my rig to a friend I know and see if there are more problems than just the PSu.

If you were using the PSU tester while most of the PSU cables were still plugged in to other devices in the computer (which was suggested by your statement the "rear fan" still turned on for a moment), then your PSU test results would likely be flawed. It could be something on the mobo that was interfering with the PSU.

If possible, before you send in the PSU, unplug all the PSU cables from your computer and then do your PSU testing with the tester. Note that the main 20/24-pin power cable WILL have to be plugged in to get results on the "peripheral" PSU cable power outputs like disk drives, CPU, etc. as the PSU will not switch on unless the power "on" pin is triggered (which is performed automatically by every PSU tester I've ever seen).

I think it may be the mobo I already sent it back before you could reply. Anyway when I bought the kit to build it I thought after I assembled it "this motherboard isn't that great maybe I should buy a new one after a while" then I seen the new i7 based(Socket 1156) boards and thought I should wait and just build new system when I get the money. Now it looks like I'm gonna have to buy a new mobo if a different PSU doesn't work. Hopefully I won't have to buy any ram, video card or possibly a new CPU too :( .

I don't know if it was the PSU or the CMOS battery but I installed the new PSU and then used a suggestion from a friend to take out the CMOS battery and then ground the pins afterward placing the battery back in. Either way I have my desktop back up and running .
