Another review there.

For a single GPU solution, and look at its power consumption, its a quality card.

Spanks the 285, and is fairly close to the 295 (and beats it in some tests).

If you want apples and apples, you'll have to wait for the 5870x2

Dont get me wrong dubs I was not saying hold onto my GTX because mine a shade better. Its becoz it would not be worth the upgrade thats all. I am chuffed to bits that ATi have this card out is KEEPER!

However.... with nVidia saying that DX11 is not a big factor I am thinking that they have nothing to release as of yet...and I dont think that they have a card to launch until Q1 of 2010 otherwise they would be trying to steal some thunder. On the other hand if they release something that spanks this it will be very exspensive...and on par alot cheaper.

Either way, its a win win situation for the consumer.

I would love to see an X2 variant.....or some specs on the GT300.

GT300 - a quick google 'GT300 spec' should get you all the info you need!

The 5870 looks like a stonking card though. For a single GPU, its a monster. Though yeah, would not be worth the swap for the 295, unless DX11 really takes off, and offers a LOT above what the 295 can achieve using the DX11 codepath.

>> Re: ATi New GPU ( The BATMOBILE)
I would put my house on DX11 taking off dubs, the main reason that the DX10 did not take off was that it did not offer enough over DX9 and devs did not want to fork out money for little change and/or gain. I wonder if it was the single PCB GTX295 or the dual variant they used in that review. Also the reviews are showing the ATi card performing really well in non demanding games.....

Straight away I am thinking if nvidia do not have a card out by Nov 12th I will get 2x5xxx series ATi cards, and still be quids in when I sell the GTX295.

But absolutely I will deffo be getting the best single PCB card available....I would never buy a dual PCB card again!!! EVER!

BTW,

What about a pair of 275's in SLi Dubs....that would beat the 5870 no? And be slightly cheaper.

Actually, I'd argue the reason DX10 did not take off was due to it being restricted to Vista, when most peeps were still on XP.

This is what held its development back - DX10 offers a WHOLE lot over DX9, but as they had to make all the bloomin game backward compatible (mostly) they had to restrict what they could do without over complicating matters, or basically designing 2 different versions of each game.

DX11 will be different, as pretty much everyone who games seriously, or remotely seriously, will have at least a DX10 card, plus Vista or Win 7.

I'm thinking about upgrading my GPU (again), and I'm just wondering if it would be worth going from an HD4870 to the HD5870?

Would the HD5870 X2 or GT300 be significantly more than the HD5870?

Thank ye kindly in advance.

There are a few things I really like about this new 5870 ......

1. Bascially you get the performance of the 4870 X2 and some

2. The power consumption both idle and load are WAYYYY lower. pretty amazing

3. The use of multi monitor, 1 ~ 6 monitors, using ATI's Eyefinity

for me ... three monitors would be prime as shown in this page - http://www.guru3d.com/imageview.php?image=20319

4. I REALLY like Sapphire's Vapor X version of the 5870 - http://images.bit-tech.net/news_images/2009/09/win-a-sapphire-...card/1.jpg

Downside with this product....

1. You aint getting one anytime soon even if you wanted to because AMD has made the deal with the devil (DELL) again..... It is said that AMD has committed the majority of the gpus to Dell and once again shutting out other oems and AIB partners.

http://channel.hexus.net/content/item.php?item=20337

2. Initial pricing.... nothing new about this.... BLEED on the leading edge... lol

3. The freaking card is LONNNNNNNNNG @ 11" or 28cm long.... dang... it may not fit in my desktop case...

For me... if it fits in my case.... and if i were to get one... i would wait about 9 ~12months later and the price will be down to the level of what I paid for my 4870 1GB .... maybe....

If you have a HD4870, this is literally NO point in upgrading at all.

All due repect mate but that is a STUPID statement to advise....why is there no point upgrading from a 4870, the 5xxx series hammers that card. Hell it hammers the GTX285 which is a better card then the 4870.

I think you are talking from the heart not your head because you have one of this cards Michael, and more importantly made a bit of a "mistake" buying it when this card was only a few weeks away.

I suggest you take a look here and EDIT your post as you WAYYYY of the MARK >:o
