Take AF down to 2 or 4 times, if you really need it. I would still wait it out. You'll feel like a little kid at xmas time.

Intel Q6600
Evga Geforce 9800 GTX+

Check this out:

Personally, I'd get a HD4870 then overclock it to the max. It should out perform a stock 4890 and for cheaper.

XFX ATI Radeon HD4870 1GB
4GB OCZ Reaper 1066mhz
SAMSUNG Spinpoint F1 1TB
ASUS P5Q Pro

Take a look at this amazing deal. I'd be all over that s**t if I didn't already have one. Actually, my MB has CrossFire - I'm wondering if I should get me another HD4870?

Here is the HD4890 for also a decent deal:

After reading plug's post:

He does have a good point. Even the new gt300 will age after release....as all parts do. However, it would almost be like stabbing yourself in the back if you got the 5870 right now. It will fail after the gt300 comes out....unless they make a huge price cut. Sure, the 5870 would destroy most games....but wouldn't you rather have next gen games with 150 fps kill you straight away?

If you NEED better fps with the same settings, just get a 4870 for now and wait it out.

A 4870 is an upgrade over a 8800GTX but I'm not sure its enough of an upgrade to justify the cost... If you're swapping out video cards buy something faster than that.

I believe it is. I did it from a 9800GTX+(similar to 8800GTX) and it was well worth it. I noticed literally double the performance. I sold my 9800GTX+ for $90 and bought the HD4870 for about $160. It was worth it for me even more since I just upgraded to a 24" monitor, the 1GB really helps.

the difference is about 30% in favor of the 4870... weather or not thats "worth it" is up to the person laying their money on the table.

There is no way I would upgrade to a 4870 or eqivilant and certainly not for a Rig of his power....madness.

Why dont you wait for Dirt2 and buy the 5870 and you get the game free! SORTED.

Sapphire are doing it but I seen others....well worth it.

COMPUTERS ARE NOT JUST MY LIFE...THEY ARE MUCH MORE IMPORTANT THEN THAT.
GO SELL CRAZY SOMEWHERE ELSE....WE'RE ALL STOCKED UP HERE!!!!!!

Haha thanx guys for your ideas. I didn't mean for the thread to turn into "what videocard soviet should buy" but I do appreciate all of your responses.

One of the things I didn't take into account is using my current card for "physx" and I think I'll research on how much difference that exactly makes. I suppose its just as simple as hooking the cards in sli and choosing physx in driver settings?

Wow.... after all this chat ass to wether to upgrade to the 5870 or NOT......

Take a read at this review of autumn 2009 graphics card buyers guide....

yep you guess it.... you gots the HD5870, GTX295, HD4870X2 and so on.....

With the exception of Crysis..... kinda looks like the HD5870 gives a good smacking at times to the GTX295 or a smidget behind it... All at the same time using much less power...
